The episode title, "Dead Man's Party," is a reference to the 1985 Oingo Boingo song of the same name, which is indeed fitting — the song includes lines such as "Going to a party where no one's still alive."

Dead Man’s Shoes is never less than watchable, thanks to Considine’s performance, but it’s never really engaging either and there’s a definite sense of the end not justifying the means.

Dead Man's Shoes is all about revenge, but in trying to be one of those serious revenge films that questions violence while indulging in it, it manages to keep virtually all the characters unsympathetic and uninteresting.

 Dead Man (1996)
With Dead Man, this satire of American culture was making a quantum leap to take on the features of a fully-fledged, passionate, moral denunciation.
It seems quite appropriate, then, that in framing his denunciation, Jarmusch should abandon the postmodern hybrid genres of his earlier films and here return to that most classical and "native" of genres, the American Western.
The result is a film that, in spite of the vehemence of its language - in lines that are taken directly from Blake- and the violence of its images - derived from the Western genre itself- actually comes to function in a highly contemplative mode.
