Deadmines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Due to the perils within the Deadmines, it has always acted as refuge for bandits such as the Brigand before the First Great War, and then as a dwelling for the Ogres when they came through the Dark Portal.
After the events of the Third Great War with the majority of the Horde united under Thrall's leadership, the Deadmines became under the control of the rogue Defias Brotherhood, led by Edwin VanCleef, an architect for the newly rebuilt Stormwind who had grown disillusioned with the Alliance after not being paid.
The Deadmines are regarded by the Blizzard development team as being some of their best work, and the point at which World of Warcraft really started to come together.

The Deadmines represents the longest quest that you can go through in the Westfall, and truly requires a group of people to take it on, as you must proceed into the Deadmines Instance to take on this monumental Quest.
Considering the Deadmines is a two to three hour undertaking (depending on the group) you defiantly do NOT want to be killed and have to start the Instance all over again.
On a final note before you head off to the Deadmines, be aware of the possibility to form a Raid Group (an assemblage of groups tackling the same Instance).

It's roughly the same type of setting as Deadmines (which no-one minds at all), and has an escort event and defend event on top of the vanilla pull-n-kill.
Sure, deadmines has a neat setting change from cave to foundry to boat, and the cannon/door thing is kinda neat -- but I don't see that making it all that much better.
It does helps the Deadmines that VC serves as a bit of a dramatic payoff on the Defias storyline.

Both (Collecting Memories and O Brother) are available from a Dwarf in the dwarven tavern in Stormwind (The tavern is in the Southwest corner of the Dwarven area).
It is easy to find the section of the Deadmines that these quests are performed in - it is a different color than the rest of the mines on your mini-map.
In my experience, some Deadmines instance parties will complete these quests as a warmup before entering the instance itself (the undead area is just past the instance portal).

Deadmines meant Van Cleef, the Defias boss who inhabited an unusually-placed pirate ship deep in the Deadmines, and Adenas had held a grudge against him ever since he had effortlessly wiped parties that Adenas had been a part of several times in the past.
His piratey followers had also been less than keen to die and leave a pet parrot on their corpse for Adenas to find, which for Adenas was a sore point.
Unfortunately the novelty of a mute parrot flapping around beside him had soon worn off, and nowadays his feathered friend was kept shut in a bank vault.
