  Unpowered Jet Airliner Landings
The crew was unsuccessful in their attempts to restart the engines, and had to execute an emergency landing on a grass strip on a levee on the Intercoastal Waterway (after initially planning to ditch the aircraft on the waterway).
During the landing roll, the nose landing gear collapsed resulting in structural damage to the airframe.
Although the landing gear was damaged during the high speed landing, the crew was able to stop the aircraft on the runway.

Deadstick landings will hold no terrors for this person and he will have experience of hand launching models.
DEADSTICK LANDING It is not part of the Silver schedule, but it is something that a pilot of silver standard should practise and be happy with.
Simulated deadsticks are now part of the bronze test, but now practise completely stopping the engine and landing on the runway.

After the landing, a fire in the nose of the plane was extinguished by go-cart racers with hand-held fire extinguishers.
Because the nose landing gear was not extended, the tail of the plane ended up three stories in the air, causing passengers exiting the rear emergency slide to slam quite hard into the asphalt.
After the landing, the pilot and co-pilot were praised for saving the lives of the 61 passengers on board.

As tow aircraft land, each would taxi up to an assigned serial of gliders where technicians would fasten the tow cables and then transit to the flight line for departure, a procedure that should last no longer than one to two hours on the ground, unless the tugs need to refuel.
Six gliders landing in total darkness, only yards away from the two inter-connected bridges, provided the means for a single infantry company to rush the bridges, assault the garrison, and capture these vital transportation arteries, all within twenty-five minutes.
The exceptionally unfavorable landing conditions should have induced them to land in a single area away from the occupied objectives with their effective defense fire, and then to capture the decisive points (airport and seaport) intact in a subsequent conventional infantry attack at the point of main effort.

A hard habit to break, was deadstick landings with no power at all, but then again, an RV is no Cessna 120.

During an off-airport emergency landing, a poor outcome can often be the result of overshooting the landing area.
The goal of the experiment was to determine what factors influenced the subject's judgment of the anticipated touchdown point in a “deadstick,” or unpowered, emergency landing.
So far she has determined that the data are consistent with what happens in the real world; that is, subjects tended to overshoot the safe area in the test as they often do in unsuccessful off-airport emergency landings.

I may be wrong about this, but I think that slipping is not used for crosswind landings per se, but used when you are too high and don't want to go around for some reason.
Afterall, a bad landing can kill a full size pilot, whereas a bad landing to a RC pilot just means a few more bills for a new model.
I suppose an uncontrolled landing by a RC plane can not be just as deadly to others in the vicinity of the flying field.

The initial round was flown with the landing section for 2 points being 3' radius circle and 1 point being within 6' but after the first round we decided that the 6' circle would be the 2 point bonus and if nobody got that, the closest person would get a single point.
With up to 5 points available to people per round, since we allowed the landing task even on "cut" rounds, The contest was always at stake and the point spread seemed better than previous contest.

 The Douglas C-47 Dakota
One of the C-33s was refitted with a DC-3 tail for evaluation purposes and redesignated "C-38".
Early tests were performed on a C-47 performing "deadstick" landings, and then the engines were pulled out and the nacelles faired over.
The "taildragger" configuration of the aircraft was also an advantage for rough-field operation, since having the aircraft's center of gravity behind the main wheels meant that the C-47 had less of a tendency to pitch forward when riding over obstructions, and also kept the engines and cockpit riding high above dust and debris.
