The Borough of Deal was incorporated on March 7, 1898 and in 1998 marked it’s Centennial Anniversary with a year long series of celebrations.  The 1898 Act of the New Jersey Legislature officially created Deal, separating it from Ocean Township and according the small town with Borough status.
Deal comprises one to two square miles and is situated directly on the Atlantic Coast.
Deal remained a farming and fishing settlement until the latter part of the 19th century.  The original family’s passed down their lands, from generation to generation.  Even today, there are descendents of a number of the original pioneers of Deal, living around the area.

New Jersey public employees were expected to begin returning to work by the end of this week following the announcement of a deal Thursday between New Jersey’s Governor Jon Corzine and state lawmakers on a new state budget.
Unprecedented in New Jersey’s history, the move furloughed 45,000 of the state’s 80,000 employees, depriving them of paychecks while state politicians and the governor continued to engage in political brinksmanship.
Under the deal reached on Thursday, the legislature agreed to impose Corzine’s increase in the state’s sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent, but half of the money raised will be used to lower property taxes.

The units being created in Jersey City and other Hudson County cities are mostly one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with a handful of studios, though the latter are typically more popular in Manhattan.
About half of the developers working on New Jersey's Gold Coast are from New York, and half are from New Jersey or elsewhere, said developer Jamie LeFrak of the LeFrak Organization, one of the coastal area's largest developers.
