Dean Koontz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dean Ray Koontz (born July 9, 1945 in Everett, Pennsylvania) is an American writer best known as a prolific and best-selling author of suspense novels.
Koontz underwent hair transplantation surgery in the late 1990's: thus, early author photos on the back of many of his novels show a balding Koontz with a mustache, as opposed to more recent ones which feature a clean-shaven Koontz with a fuller head of hair.
Though many of Koontz's works have been adapted either as motion pictures or for television, Koontz is generally unhappy with most of these adaptations of his books--he has even denied (tongue in cheek) that the adaptations ever occurred.

 Author Profile: Dean Koontz
Dean Koontz was born and raised in Pennsylvania.
Masterful author and quirky character Dean Koontz impresses us yet again with his new book, FALSE MEMORY, a book that is about, among other things, a woman who suffers from a rare and peculiar disease called autophobia --- which the author defines as the fear of oneself.
Only Koontz could juggle the logistics of this odd premise and only TBR Senior Writer Joe Hartlaub could tackle the enviable task of interviewing his favorite author (I don't think he'd stand for anyone else doing the asking).

Dean Koontz: Hometown Boy Makes Good
Dean Koontz, like John D. MacDonald and Kurt Vonnegut before him, is one of science fiction's ambiguous success stories.
In the late 1970s, Koontz appeared to be going nowhere under his own name, and in fact no novels of his appeared in 1978; but the next year he launched a career in romantic suspense under the deliberately epicene pseudonym of Leigh Nichols.
Other Freudian images in Koontz's early work, like caves representing the subconscious, are not refuted but simply brushed aside as unworthy of discussion because of their association with the old discredited paradigm.

Koontz's career has mirrored Stephen King's to a remarkable degree?the early pseudonymous novels, the bloated blockbusters, the increased use of horror as social commentary?albeit at a lag.
Koontz even makes the centerpiece of Chyna Shepherd's battle against a serial killer her attempt to free herself from the restraints that bind her to a piece of furniture?the very same challenge faced by King's heroine.
Koontz's books are more for entertainment purposes than at all for knowledge; though I do have to credit him with some allusions (even if they may have been superficial) and I did learn a few things (mostly about escaping from a crazed serial killer).
