In Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), Malenko was known as "The Shooter" Dean Malenko and was given a gimmick similar to a UFC fighter (due to his uncanny resemblence to Royce Gracie).
Malenko would soon be known in WCW as "The Iceman" Dean Malenko due to his cold, caculating demeanor and was also given the nickname of The Man Of 1,000 Holds (borrowed from the Dynamite Kid who had the nickname originally whilst wrestling in the UK).
Malenko appeared in the ring along with other legendary wrestlers during a segment of the Homecoming edition of RAW on October 3rd, 2005.

Dean is a second-generation wrestler, with his father, Professor Boris Malenko, becoming known as one of the most hated heels in the United States during his career.
It was during this point that the IV Horsemen, including Dean Malenko, began to return to its roots, becoming a true heel organization, with run-in attacks on opponents.

Malenko is, in my opinion, one of the best workers of the last 30 years.
I've seen countless Malenko matches in which the crowd could care less in the beginning and chant "boring" but by the time the finish would come around, they'd be into the near falls.

The bookers of WCW at the time of Malenko's prominence, namely Kevin Sullivan and Terry Taylor, said they were led to believe Malenko knew the amount of holds he claimed to know.
It is still unknown whether or not Malenko will keep his job with WWE, where he currently works as one of their road agents.

Dean Malenko has been a dominating light heavy weight champion in the WWF for about half a year now, and looks to be re-entering the Raw is War/PPV scene in the WWF, and he truly does deserve it.

After hitting on Lita and being rejected, he teamed with Saturn and Guererro to beat her and The Hardy Boyz at Armageddon.
Malenko lost a match with Lita thanks to Matt Hardy, and went back to defending his Light Heavyweight title.
