Rotten Tomatoes: Dean Parisot Celebrity Profile
The LA Times reports that the forthcoming suburban caper remake, "Fun with Dick and Jane," has somehow rung up a $100 million production tab despite a lack of enormous special effects or complicated filmmaking usually involved in big-budget films.
Dean Parisot, director of the upcoming "Fun with Dick and Jane" and the still-awesome "Galaxy Quest," has signed with WB to helm "The Bill From My Father," a high-concept comedy written by Bob Nelson.
MovieFone brings us a 6-month-early sneak peek at the Jim Carrey ("The Mask") / Tea Leoni ("Spanglish") comedy "Fun with Dick and Jane." Directed by Dean Parisot ("Galaxy Quest"), "Fun" tells the tale of a seemingly normal middle-class married couple who rob and steal to keep the money rolling in.

SPLICEDwire | "Galaxy Quest" review (1999)
Spock, the clueless aliens with halcyon smirks, waddling walks and a nasal, monotone vocabulary are themselves mistaken for autograph-hunting geeks when they invade a sci-fi convention to recruit the "crew" of the illustrious fictional spaceship, the NESA Protector.
In these early scenes, director Dean Parisot ("Home Fries") gets the atmosphere exactly right with a sea of paunchy, pimply, badly-costumed extras shouting out space-jargon inquisitions to the faded stars of the long-canceled show as if they really were their characters.
Parisot does, however, get an A+ for the crafty casting of the "Galaxy Quest" crew, whose careers have been reduced to ribbon-cutting gigs at electronics stores grand openings.

The director, Dean Parisot, and the screenwriter, Vince Gilligan, don't go soft and gooey on us.
During Sally and Dorian's class, the coach, a benign old-hippie type, offers her pupils encouragement along the lines of "Remember, a relaxed jaw means an open vagina." But they don't sacrifice the goofy sweetness of the moment, either.
Parisot -- whose previous work includes "The Appointments of Dennis Jennings," a short film with comedian Steven Wright, is making his feature debut here, and he doesn't try to force Gilligan's wayward style into formula.

The main problem with writer-director Dean Parisot's debut is its haphazard mixture of various genres.
Lever finally discovers that Dorian has been falling in love with the enemy, she asks, "Why would you do this to me? You were my favorite." When the crushed Angus presses his mother for an explanation, she replies, "I love you both, the difference is this much." She holds her fingers about an inch apart.
However, contrivances dominate a significant amount of the plot and Parisot must spare his characters from being in too many strange situations.

His film also accurately portrays the clap-trap look of the original (bogus) "Galaxy Quest" TV set, the campy idiocy and rampant confusion of a sci-fi fan convention and the "real-life" look of the Thermian galaxy.

True to form, Nesmith loves the idea of playing out his character for real, but his fellow thespians (soon abducted as well) hate their commander's guts — at least when they aren't terrified out of their wits.
Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot and scenarist David Howard do too — everything from the lame fight sequences of the original series to the goofy pseudo-science of the Next Generation — and even, it seems, many of the deeply entrenched grudges between Trek cast members that are now legendary to die-hard fans.
Weaver, well-known for her Alien stint, looks like she's having fun deflating the sci-fi genre, and Rickman dresses down pompous stage actors as only a really talented actor could.
