Ween - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ween, often compared in their early years to other offbeat artists such as Frank Zappa and They Might Be Giants, would always eschew such comparisons.
Ween turned to Nashville, Tennessee studio musicians for the recording of the authentically-spirited "12 Golden Country Greats" (1996) which only contained ten tracks (the "12 Greats" in the title pays affectionate tribute to the dozen veteran musicians, known as The Shit Creek Boys, who played on the album).

Dean Ween - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dean Ween (born September 25, 1970) is the stage name of Michael "Mickey" Melchiondo, Jr., Italian American guitarist and very special second half of the alternative rock group Ween.
He later met Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) in a junior high school typing class in their hometown of New Hope, Pennsylvania, and although the two did not get along at first, they soon found they were soul brothers and thus adapted the common surname.
Although he is busy with his family and touring with Ween, Melchiondo still keeps in close touch with all the Ween fans online by commandeering the band's official site, posting on the newsgroups, and visiting the Ween chatrooms.

 Flak Magazine: Ween's Quebec, 08.06.03
Ween's early supporters were all let go in 1994, and the band made no effort to establish meaningful relationships with the new, "more hits-oriented staff." Then, not long ago, Elektra balked at advancing money for Ween to record a new album.
Dean, however, prefers not being on the studio clock, letting "the experimental vibe" take them where it will; in the case of Quebec, there is still a variety of musical styles on display, but the lingering hand of psychedelia lends the album an uncommon unity.
Ween are style chameleons, and their producer, Andrew Weiss, is not one for understatement, yet the music almost always connects on a gut level; it is immediate.

Dean and Gene, aged sixteen years, each played guitar and sang vocals, but needed to rely on the primitiveness of a cassette deck that pumped out the drums and bass from a tape.
This prompted the Ween camp to start up their very own website, ween.com, in an effort to give the fans more Ween than they themselves were feeling humanly capable of providing.
