		CHARLESTON, S.C. HOWARD DEAN SAID, "I'm trying to gently call out the white population." His genteel example was a story he tells to voters about how his chief of staff as governor of Vermont was always a woman.
		This was a softer Dean than the one excoriated by his competitors for the Democratic presidential nomination for saying he wanted to appeal to white guys with Confederate flags on their pickup trucks.
		Dean said proactive measures are still necessary to counteract the unconscious biases that confirmed by many studies showing that job discrimination continues to be a major problem.

		Dean’s home state of Vermont is one of the least diverse states in America, with a fl population of only 0.5%.
		On October 30th, in a phone interview with the Des Moines Register, Dean said he “want[s] to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks.” Maybe Dean is the one that needs a little lesson in race relations.
		Dean has a tough case to prove that “Confederate flag” waving Southerners are even registered to vote Democrat in the upcoming Primaries.

		Many are noting Dean’s administration supported excess police force toward fls, and disregarded many fl defendant rights by overly supporting prosecutors instead.
		The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has yet to release their official scorecard on Dean’s Vermont record, but rumor has it that the ACLU handled a disproportionate number of “race” cases in Vermont while Dean was governor.
		Tossing around such hurtful and loaded symbolism is hardly the way to “talk to white people in America about race.” Then again, since “fl folks have heard lectures” from white politicians for a long time — Dean won't be including them in any upcoming "racial" discussion.

		Also in the Times, Dean's candidacy has a new urgency, or impending sense of doom, depending on how you look at it.
		And though the campaign has made some missteps, financial and otherwise, you can really chalk it up to just one thing: the media' demonization of the concession speech in Iowa.
		It's a tremendous credit to Dr. Dean that he changed the way that politics are being done in the 2004 election.
