It was a day of interesting subspecies for Betsy, Dean DiTommaso, and me. After checking the roosting rocks upriver from the power plants on the Niagara River (Devils Hole State Park), Dean spotted a dark Red-tailed Hawk in flight overhead.
That particular banding proposal was ill-conceived, of highly questionable scientific merit, and an additional unwelcome stressor on species that make use of an over-utilized resource (Central Park, or indeed any of the city parks) while migrating through an urban environment.
The presence of White-footed Mice in the park has been documented since at least the early 1900s according to published reports, so additional time in the library is warranted (or contact me directly if further info is desired).

Looking for answers, some 60 students and faculty attended a forum organized by Wilson Dean Anne-Marie Slaughter to determine who prevails when artistic vision collides with sacred belief.

Guiding Wilson in this process was Lloyd Richards, dean of Yale's drama school and director of the school's productions of Wilson's plays.
Wilson's subsequent plays include the Pulitzer Prize- winning Fences, which is about a former athlete who forbids his son to accept an athletic scholarship, and Joe Turner's Come and Gone, which concerns an ex-convict's efforts to find his wife.
Richards worked with Wilson to refine the play, and when it was presented at Yale in 1984 it was hailed as the work of an important new playwright.
