Situated in the historic suburb or Craighall Park, in the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg, Deansgate nestles in a well-tended garden surrounded by parklands and encircled by the Braamfontein Spruit.
The facilities at Deansgate are top-notch and comprise a combination of self-care and high care units.

Inside is a gorgeous glass and iron shopping arcade with two octagonal domes rising from glass pendentives, probably the best example of this type of cast-iron and glass-roofed arcade anywhere in the country.
There are two entrances from Deansgate and another reached from St Ann’s Square, in a wonderful cast-iron and glass curtain wall.
Inside everything is light and airy, with three tiers of balconies with ornamental balustrades curving around the U-shaped arcade, which is quite narrow but very high, rising to 53 ft (16 metres).

Baa Bar originated in Liverpool (trendy name or two attempts at spelling the word 'bar'?) It is a reliable bar on Deansgate Locks as you usually don't have to queue to get in, the bouncers are friendlier than most, they have drink promotions and the decor inside (glittering balls) is fun and funky!

Known succinctly as "DoD", this year's festival was the fifth to take place and the first one I'd attended.

There was a 30-minute break before the next panel, allowing people time for a coffee or to get their books signed by the authors, and this was rather a good idea.
In fact one good thing about this years Deansgate event unlike last year, or Crimescene, was that no panels clashed.
I told Beverley that I had loved 'River of Darkness' and had given it a starred review in Shots, and was eagerly anticipating his follow-up 'The Blood-Dimmed Tide' now subject to delay, which was very frustrating.
