Jack the Ripper Letters From Hell
October, the letter and its contents were made public, and from that moment on five sordid East End murders were guaranteed a gruesome immortality, whilst the homicidal miscreant responsible for them would be elevated into the realm of legend.
So both the card and the ‘Dear Boss’ letter were reproduced on posters, which were placed outside police stations with a request for anyone recognizing the handwriting to contact the police.
Even Inspector Dobson admitted in court that he "...considered the letters to be a "lark" and that he never thought that "Jack the Ripper" was in town." Mrs Harvey expressed her told mystification as to why Charlotte Higgins should have sent her such a letter and even applauded the girl as a model employee.

Dear Boss letter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "Dear Boss" letter was a message dated September 25, allegedly written by the notorious Victorian serial killer known as Jack the Ripper.
Initially this letter was considered to be just one of many hoaxes, but when the body of Catherine Eddowes was found on September 30 with one ear severed, the writer's promise to "clip the ladies ears off" gained attention.
After the murders, police officials stated that they believed this letter and the postcard were hoaxes by a local journalist.

From Hell letter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "From Hell" letter is the name given to a letter mailed in 1888 by a man who claimed to be the killer known as Jack the Ripper.
Though many letters claiming to be from the killer were mailed in the time of the Ripper murders, the "From Hell" letter is widely considered one of the few possibly authentic writings received from the serial killer.
It is perhaps noteworthy that its author chose not to sign it with the pseudonym, "Jack the Ripper", distinguishing it from the earlier Dear Boss letter, the Saucy Jack postcard and their imitators.

From GARY CRAIG, secretary, Newspaper Guild of Rochester: Mitchell Zuckoff’s recent letter about the union fight at the Boston Globe stands as proof positive that life on a university campus may in fact be an "Ivory Tower" existence.
And the union leaders who signed the letter are representatives of many of the community’s working families who also understand the importance of a contract that is reasonable and fair to both the employer and the union.
Perhaps Zuckoff, if he were still a member of this union, might be able to put the plight of his fellow workers in better perspective if he personally felt what it was to be under an employer assault that could virtually destroy the living standards of these hard-working employees and their families.

How to Write a Love Letter - eHow.com
Ever since the advent of the internet, honest-to-goodness love letters—which once were spun out to novelistic lengths by nineteenth-century masters of the form—have become as rare on the ground as spotted leopards (or whatever endangered species suits your fancy).
“Dear Sirs” or “To Whom It May Concern” are businesslike and direct, but they don’t quite set the proper tone of intimacy.
As in step #2, the cumulative effect of your heartfelt love letter will be completely negated by a lame “regards,” “sincerely” or “respectfully yours.” Consider something more pungent, such as “if only ‘twere written in blood, your abased servant, on whose unworthy head I bid thee bestow thine blessing,” etc. etc.

A letter written from Sir Charles Warren, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, in which he defends his decision to erase graffiti found at one of the crime scenes (which led to his dismissal) is also considered important evidence.
Most of the Ripper letters were believed to be fakes, penned by newsmen eager to sensationalize the story or the usual crazies that write in when any crime with wide-spread coverage appears.
The police believe this letter is authentic because the kidney tissue matched that of an alcoholic about the same age as the victim he claimed it was taken from, Catherine Eddowes.

They will research the different methods employed by the police in their efforts to apprehend Jack the Ripper, as well as those suggested by members of the public, to question whether or not they were to blame for not bringing him (or her!) to justice.
The Jack the Ripper letters will also be examined to understand the impact they had on the police investigation of the case, and what they reveal about society's attitudes to the murders.
We will then go on to consider how reliable the letters are, as a source for helping us to identify Jack the Ripper, and why they might also have made it so difficult for the police to apprehend the killer.
