DEARBORN, HENRY (Feb. 23, 1751-June 6, 1829), soldier, secretary of war, and congressman from Massachusetts, was born at Hampton, N. H., the son of Simon Dearborn and his wife Sarah Marston.
Dearborn’s request for a court of inquiry went unheeded, but he was given command of New York City and was later appointed president of the court martial which tried and condemned Gen. Hull -- a most improper appointment, since Dearborn's negligence had contributed to bring about Hull’s defeat.
Dearborn was thrice married: to Mary Bartlett in 1771; to Dorcas (Osgood) Marble in 1780; and to Sarah Bowdoin, widow of James Bowdoin, in 1813.

Dearborn residents already have one of the highest tax rates in the county, almost 45 mills for those in the Dearborn School District, and almost 38 mills for residents in the Crestwood School District.
Dearborn has to build the $290 million sewer tunnel to conform to federal environmental regulations, and most of that will be paid by city residents.

 Fort Dearborn
As a part of the 1795 Treaty of Greenville, the U.S. government acquired a parcel of land at the mouth of the Chicago River from Native Americans.
In August 1812, the American force evacuated Fort Dearborn and was attacked along the lakeshore by area Indians as the contingent began its journey to Fort Wayne.
After this attack, known as the Fort Dearborn Massacre, Native Americans burned the fort and the area was little inhabited until 1816 when the U.S. army returned to rebuild.
