Her “positive denial,” as I always thought of it, whether with regard to her health, her work as a writer or her private life, had not been extinguished by the hard facts of M.D.S. after all.
After her death, a theme in many of the extremely generous and heartfelt letters of condolence I received from her friends puzzled me: it was surprise - surprise that my mother hadn’t beaten M.D.S. as she had beaten both breast cancer and the uterine sarcoma that struck her in her mid-60’s.
Her blood pressure had already dropped into a perilous zone and was dropping steadily, her pulse was weakening and the oxygen level in her blood was dropping.

Still, Death Becomes Her is not a film which requires a lot of thought, and I am thankful because it allowed more visual gags and funny lines than a thought-provoking film would have.
Death Becomes Her is the exception, and yet it works.
Death Becomes Her is rated PG-13 for language, comic violence, and nudity.

Ramsay renders the emotional life of her seemingly impenetrable protagonist through the smallest of gestures, quarrying sound and image to convey Morvern's inner anarchy - flesh wounds are echoed in a rotting carrot; mortality evoked by a squirming nest of worms.
Death brings Morvern a certain liberation, she is released to discover her true identity and desires.

Her taut little tush and her chipper little chin leave Madeline in a jealous rage.

She's an eerie, tragic blob, with dried dribble on her chin, slumped catatonically in front of the TV set.

But, for the most part, "Death" bites the hand that nips and tucks it to the bitter end.

Silk-wrapped chains attach each piece to the ceiling like umbilical cords, binding the museum to the forms Coyne lovingly refers to as her "girls." The monumental scale and visual appeal of the wax-coated roses would be enough to warrant an interest in her work.

But Vicki was also into the fantasy of being killed (her pre-Columbine website details fantasies of being killed as a spy or soldier, Native American massacres, workplace gun sprees and so on) and as this aspect started to appear in Necrobabes, the dynamic began to shift.
Most interesting to note however was the Death Fetish community’s reactions to this attack against one of their number: it resulted in the sort of embarrassed silence you normally associate with a fart in a lift.

Classic-Horror Review of Death Becomes Her (1992)
I'm sure I'll provoke arguments along the lines of, "Death Becomes Her should not in any way be classified as horror, although calling it fl comedy is acceptable." And no, I don't think that every fl comedy is a horror flick, although I do think most of them are.
Despite the unusual cast in this context, and the fact that Death Becomes Her is shot in a bright, attractive, Hollywood style, all the overt elements of the second half are horror.
To know that Death Becomes Her is a big-budgeted, engaging extravaganza with amazing and timeless special effects, all you have to know is that it was directed and written by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, Contact, What Lies Beneath).

Death Becomes Her, an outlandish parable about America's obsession with youth and vanity, exposes the corrosive side of Zemeckis's comic sensibility, the sort of scathing satirical edge he gleefully flourished in his overlooked 1980 Used Cars, which has developed a cult following.
Her high school rival, Helen, (Goldie Hawn), brings her latest beau to meet Ashton after a campy performance in a musical based on "Sweet Bird of Youth" (get the theme already?).
With excellent performances, an invective-laced script, and remarkable special effects, DEATH BECOMES HER takes on several great philosophical and literary concepts--and subverts them into one of the most wickedly funny fl comedies in recent memory, dishy, bitchy, mean spirited, and a tremendous amount of fun.

Coming as it does from a proud line of blockbuster comic classics, Zemeckis' "Death Becomes Her" ultimately fails to live up to the success of its siblings.
Essentially the film is an old fashioned morality fable for the rich and famous, dressed in the genre togs of a horror spoof, and jazzed up with some nippy special effects and beautiful people.
When the ageing screen siren Madeline (Streep) finds that Ernest (Willis) the plastic surgeon fiancé of her old college friend Helen (Hawn), is besotted with her fading glory, she marries him to restore her looks.

When Toni Pallett was diagnosed with incurable breast cancer in 1999, she started preparing for her own death, and visited a funeral parlor as a "pre-need" client, to start planning for the end.
There, her questions about embalming and other practices were rebuffed, and instead she felt pressured to sign up for an expensive package for "services" that she didn't want and wouldn't be around to enjoy.
Pallet's curiosity about death along with her frustration with the secretive world of mortuary science, coupled with the get-on-the-Web ethos of the times, led to the creation in 1999 of bluelips.com.
