  'Death Race 2000' Review | shameface.com
Made in 1975, Death Race 2000 is the story of a futuristic cross-country race in which racers attempt to hit as many innocent pedestrians as possible.
This national bloodlust is reflected in "The Race", the cross-country killing fest that is the main subject of this movie.
As is the case with most of the Charles Griffith/Roger Corman collaborations, Death Race 2000 is a darkly comical film with moments of both sheer insanity and subtle (or not so subtle) social commentary.

Anyway, Death Race 2000 is the timeless tale of three competitive drivers, namely Machine Gun Joe, Calamity Jane, Matilda the Hun, Nero the Hero, and the ever-so mysterious Frankenstein, willing participants in a no-holds-barred cross-country race filled with senseless violence and lots of gratuitous nudity.
Sure, I expected a movie featuring a race centered around murdering pedestrians for points to be a bit on the bloody side, but the kills themselves are often beyond cruel and most unusual.

One of the high points, Death Race 2000, was intended to ride on the coattails of the ponderous MGM sci-fi/action/sports epic, Rollerball; what director Paul Bartel (Eating Raoul, Private Parts) delivered was a minor masterpiece of bloody social satire.
In the far off year 2000, America has become a bloodthirsty fascist state where fans gather for the "Death Race," in which outrageous contestants race their cars across the country and earn points for the number of pedestrians they hit along the way.
The government's racing wunderkind, Frankenstein (David Carradine), is a biomechanically reconstructed superstar in competition with the bitter Joe Viturbo (a young Sylvester Stallone).

 Death Race 2000 [1975] - Review @ EOFFTV
The world of the Transcontinental Road Race is a bleak nightmare, a place where the only people who know what they're doing are the homicidal road racers and where well-placated citizens will gladly lay down their lives for the good of the Race.
Death Race 2000 is a B-movie with a brain, an exploitation film with something to say, questioning America's fascination with violence and control and its reliance on television for information and education.
Bartel himself tried to repeat the success of Death Race 2000 with the altogether tamer and more forgettable Cannonball [1976], a non-fantasy quickie set in 70s America which lacked the acerbic wit of Death Race 2000 and was filled to overflowing with pointless cameos.

Death Race was a controversial arcade game, released by Exidy (whose name was a contraction of "Excellence in Dynamics") in 1976.
While not the first violent video game to appear, it was the first video game to inspire a great deal of protest and controversy, or moral panic, in the United States.
In the game, designed by Howell Ivy and inspired by the 1975 cult film Death Race 2000 by Paul Bartel (starring David Carradine, Sylvester Stallone and produced by Roger Corman), one or two players control an onscreen car (two cars if two players played) with a steering wheel and an acceleration pedal.
