The Seventh Gate: a Death Gate Novel, Volume 7 by Margaret Weis
In all probability, people who read the first of the Death Gate Cycle books and like it, are going to want to read all of the books in the series (regardless of any flucutation in the individual books' ratings).
I was recommended the Death Gate Cycle, and by the time I was fifty pages into Dragon Wing, I was hooked in every way of the term.

I remember reading that- I beieve the whole point was that Zifnab (or whatever the name was) was suppsoed to be mad, insane- those are all things the people in a fantasy world would have no clue about, hence, he seems crazy.
DGC- I liked the series, best one Weis and Hickman have done, and the only one-in my opinion- that truly shows their talent as writers.
I should say that I AM biased since the Death Gate Cycle is my favorite series of all time, and Zifnab is my favorite character.

The real point of interest about this world is that it was once all one world, a stupidly long amount of time ago two great godlike races were locked in an endless battle, the lesser races (Humans, Elves, Dwarves) were caught up in this battle as one would expect.
At the exit from the labrynth the second person ever to make it this far is helped out through the final gate, and is sent on a mission (by the first person to ever make it out) to go to the various worlds and track down their ancient enemy so they may get revenge.
Eventually he finds that their is only one remaining member from the other race left, like everything else the chambers failed and he somehow survived.
