Chris Barnes is one of the originators of death metal, so I sort of figured if anyone could pull off quality death metal versions of Savatage, Scorpions and Accept, he could.
The song that was the best on this disc, and the one song that does seem to lend itself better to death metal is Exodus' "Piranha." I suppose since death metal was an offshoot of thrash metal, this explains the successful marriage.
Death vocals are just too one dimensional and unexciting for most of these classic songs, but then that has been my beef with death metal from the very beginning.

That album was often referred to as death metal, but the progressive thrash on it had little to do with that genre besides the vocals.
Abel Gomez's singing is still heavy, but now has a slight hardcore sound and is closer to that of Ethereal Scourge, in comparison to the low end death grunt he employed on the previous album.
Fans of brutal death metal may be disappointed, and fans of Tears of a Leper, though they will recognize the band by their sound, will not get a continuation of that album.
