The books that preceded this one (including Death in the Clouds (1935), The ABC Murders (1936) and Murder in Mesoptamia (1936)) had been well received and it seemed impossible to better them, but better them she did with Death on the Nile.
Death on the Nile was adapted in 2003, once again on location, but the lack of an all star cast made it far less enjoyable than the film.
Retitled Murder on the Nile, the play had many characters removed, including, surprisingly, Poirot himself (Christie later stated this was because the role was often difficult to cast on stage to her satisfaction).

Death on the Nile DVD review on AudioRevolution.com
Here, in 'Death on the Nile,' he's a little more straightforward, a little less cutesy-pie than he is in the later films.
'Death on the Nile' is the best of Ustinov's outings as Poirot; 'Evil Under the Sun' has a lot to recommend it, but 'Nile' features even more exotically beautiful locations and an even more intriguingly complicated plot.
But overall, though 'Murder on the Orient Express' remains the best theatrical adaptation of Christie to date, 'Death on the Nile' is a major contender for second place, a grand evocation of a type of mystery and a period now long gone.

It is quite absorbing, a lot more interesting than most of these documentaries, especially when detailing how they rebuilt a careworn Nile steamer to make it play its central role in the movie - and then recreated the vessel, inch by inch, in the English sound studio, along with the towering banks of the Nile.
