Death Rock (also spelled Deathrock) is a term used to identify a playfully spooky offshoot of Punk Rock which first appeared in Los Angeles during the late 1970s.
Members of the original Death Rock scene did not have the benefit of a group of 'elders' to pass on the oral history of music and traditions.
As the modern Goth scene continues to drift further away from its Punk roots under the influences of EBM, goth metal, shock rock, BDSM and Fetishism, an increasing number of new Death Rock bands and clubs are appearing as a reaction against this trend.

I have seen prior discussion on this very knot on a Usenet newsgroup, where it was referred to as a "European Death Knot" for the propensity it has to roll over itself, untying, when the strands are pulled at a wide (180°) angle.
The issue appears to be that either the figure 8 or the overhand (commonly referred to as the "European Death Knot") will "invert" under load -- if the tails are not long enough, the knot will literally roll off the ends of the rope, causing the knot to fail.
Try actually climbing some rocks & rapping some routes outside, then come back in a year or so to tell us all about that brilliant locker idea & how it worked for you...
