This is a collection of Dream Death's three official demos, the self-titled from 1986, "More Graveyard Delving" also from 1986 and "Ode to Sorrow" from 1988.
Gammacide is quite a legendary Texas band today, with their no compromises thrash metal.
This is the 2005 reissue on Marquee records with the rare and brutal 1991 demo only sent to press and labels and two newly recorded songs, originally written in 1992, as bonus tracks.

Thrash metal is widely viewed as the most riff-oriented of all the heavy metal music sub-genres.
Thrash took off in 1984 or so, with Overkill releasing their second demo (Feel the Fire), and Slayer's seminal Haunting the Chapel EP, which featured the song 'Chemical Warfare'.
Thrash has seen a sort of a comeback in the late 1990s with European bands like Hypnosia[?] (sounding much like Pleasure to Kill) or Carnal Forge[?], a fast death-thrash hybrid.

Of all the Death albums I own, this is probably my least favorite as it is really not up to the standards of "Individual Thought Patterns" or especially the masterpiece "Sound of Perseverance." The stereotypical blood, gore, and brutal death lyrics are especially not to my liking.
Death were touring the U.S. with Hammerfall for this tour.

If you remember the mid and late eighties thrash scene as I do (I started college in 1987) or have recently rediscovered it thanks to the retro movement, then this CD might pique your interest.
For those not in the know, this is the scene that spawned death metal and ironically it was the popularity of death metal that killed this kind of music.

It is certainly not death thrash, but I do not hear as many similarities to the original punk-inspired variety of thrash metal that reared its head in the early 80's.
Drummer Marc is amazing, even throwing in some blast beats with the usual thrash gallops (most notably in the album's opener, "Soul Collector") and varying his percussion far more than one is likely to hear in the genre of thrash metal.
The fact of the matter is, Destruction is a classic thrash band that has come forth with a strong thrash album, the likes of which I expect most thrash fans already know whether they will love or hate.

I don't know what it is, but lately there's been more than a few great Thrash bands that sound like they would have been at home making this music back in the mid to late 80's, and Hokum is no exception.
Like I stated earlier, the guitars are totally Thrash oriented with catchy as hell structuring and amazing leads and intricate riffing all around.
This Death vocal style blends amazingly well with the Thrash aspect of the rest of their music and actually adds a little more "punch" to the music that a Thrash vocal style probably could not accomplish.
