The "blasphemous" lyrics don't bother me, the chaotic music doesn't bother me, and the growled vocals certainly don't bother me. Detractors complain that they can't understand what is being said.
A mistake that most death novices make is growling through their throat.
Delivering death vocals requires a great deal of energy, and drugs of any sort will only emasculate your staying power.

Death-metal vocalizing is also known as Cookie Monster singing, if not in tribute to, at least in acknowledgment of, the "Sesame Street" puppet that blurts in a guttural growl, his words discharged so rapidly that they tend to collide with each other.
But while the vocals in early death metal are low, raspy and aggressive, not unlike the vocals by, say, Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, that extreme degree of Cookieness is missing.
She does vocal exercises to keep fit, some of which she learned from Melissa Cross, a New York-based voice teacher whose instructional DVD "The Zen of Screaming" is a favorite of extreme vocalists.

Lennon also wondered what his vocals would sound like if he was hanging upside down from the ceiling.
Their vocals on "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me" were inspired by the Everlys' vocals on "Cathy's Clown" (1960), the first recording to ever reach number one simultaneously in the USA and England.
Early in their recording career the drums usually were recorded with only two microphones: one overhead (an AKG D19 or STC 4038) and one for the bass drum (such as an AKG D20).

Really, the only genres in which vocalists use that particular style are death metal and its close cousin, grindcore – bands such as Napalm Death, Carcass, Obituary, and Suffocation, whose focus is, or was, death, decay, and other such existential dilemmas.
This vocal style is not to be confused with the rasping, higher-pitched shriek of Norwegian fl metal bands such as Darkthrone, the thick-necked barking of weight-lifter metal bands like Pantera, or the anxious roar of current Headbanger's Ball favorites like Shadows Fall.
Finally, whether intentional or not, the grisly vocals of death metal, fl metal, and hardcore are an effective repellent against listeners who aren't committed to approaching the music on its own terms.

Sandy Denny - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The exact circumstances of her death are somewhat murky.
The confusion occurred due to friends' efforts to protect the privacy of Denny's family regarding the messier details of her life, specifically Denny's long-term abuse of alcohol and her marital troubles (she was living apart from Lucas and their daughter at the time of her death).
The song "Remember", on the Groove Armada album Lovebox (2003), is composed of Denny's vocals, sampled from her song "Autopsy" (from Fairport Convention's Unhalfbricking album), backed by The London Community Gospel Choir.

So I wouldn't call him a death metal vocalist per say(Lamb of God as a whole is basically a metallic hardcore band band with both death and thrash metal)influences if you wanted to get technical but yeah he is pretty good at what he does.
If you're interested in metalcore/screamo vocals there is another article for that as well which might actually help you with the kind of screaming you want to do(even though it is pretty different from metalcore/hardcore); no matter how metallic or raspy you plan to make them.
In the case of Windir's vocals, which are really hard, the spot is just beneath the jawbone and the pitch can be adjusted by moving the jaw forward or back.

How to Do Harsh Death Metal Vocals - wikiHow
The most important technique for performing death metal vocals is to be able to control your breathing, establishing a balance between the force used by your diaphragm and your vocal cords.
Using only the vocal cords will put undue pressure on them and is sure to damage them (minor damage will heal in time).
Already having skill in death metal singing is also a benefit when learning to scream, especially for metalcore.

Detailed Reviews [The Fallen - 2002 - "Front Toward Enemy"] - ProgressoR
The tempo contrasts, along with complex stop-to-play movements, kaleidoscopic and, often, really sudden changes of musical direction, tone, and mood, and the frequent use of the odd meters, are one of the hallmarks of this album.
However, I haven't heard any of the real death or fl vocals here (which, though, is okay for me).
After the seemingly final note of the album and the 1-minute pause there is hidden a real and full-fledged ballad, which was sung with the surprisingly high and clear lead and back vocals to the accompaniment of acoustic guitar.

Death Row (vocals by Rico Bell of The Mekons)
On hearing Volume One, former Illinois Governor George Ryan spontaneously cleared Death Row and was heard to whimper "Shit, those country commies know their chops!!!" This leaves us little doubt that this TWO DISC SET sequel portends oblivion for the hangmen that lurk in the rest of the nation.
Since the completion of Volume One, we invited more of our favorite singers and songwriters to contribute voices and reputations and were pleasantly trampled by herds of willing collaborators (hence the double disc).

A Guide to the Progressive Rock Genres
Although the inspirations for the music are 70s, the music is also generally informed by death, doom and occasionally math genres, giving it a luster that differentiates much of it from its 70s forbearers.
A style related to death metal due to the frequent similarity between vocal styles, doom metal is usually very slow, heavy, dark music whose structures often tend to long, epic lengths.
Progenitors Carcass, SOB, Repulsion, Terrorizer and Napalm Death were to influence a host of groups whose attraction to the extreme would end up incorporating wild experimentation to give way to the likes of Brutal Truth, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Cephalic Carnage, Discordance Axis, and Melt Banana.
