Owen Deathstalker, Hazel D'Ark, Jack Random, Ruby Journey -- they are just legends now, the details of their exploits removed from the historical record because the new king and queen thought that the people would be more inspired by legend than a history that revealed their human weaknesses.
Deathstalker Legacy took up the story 200 years later, introducing us to a new Deathstalker in Lewis, a noble Paragon who was named King Douglas's Champion and then branded a traitor when he ran off with the king's intended bride Jesamine Flowers.
Lewis Deathstalker and his ill-sorted allies retrace much of the path followed by the legendary Owen himself, stopping off on Lachrymose Christi and Shandrakor before proceeding to Haden, the home of the Madness Maze that gave Owen Deathstalker and his companions the superhuman powers that helped them become the venerated saviors of humanity.

Novels are for the heroes, the mythic, the bigger-than-life.
The Nightside Novels -- 'Something from the Nightside', 'Agents of Light and Darkness' and 'Nightingale's Lament' are quite fun, kicky little novels set in a surreal bit of London where it's always 3 AM and the gods and monsters walk the streets with unfortunate humans.

His Deathstalker series is partly a parody of the usual space-opera of the 1950s, told with sovereign disregard of the rules of probability, while being at the same time extremely bloodthirsty.
First written in 1995, Shadows Fall is a novel discussing a small town at the back of beyond where legends go to die.
Referred by Simon R. Green as one of his best works it was referenced in the fourth and sixth books of the Nightside Novels and was republished last year.

This first-in-a-series is populated by a suave and suitably blas{‚}e hero, nasty villains galore, a wide assortment of peculiar supporting characters of many bizarre species, and the requisite confused love interest; and it is set on a criminal planet, Mistworld, at an imperial court, and all over a wildly variegated galaxy.
Owen Deathstalker, last of his line, is a quiet man, a historian, remote from the stench of corruption and intrigue surrounding the Iron Throne at the heat of the galaxy-spanning, tyrannical Empire.
However, over the course of the several novels he comes to be a very interesting character, and better yet his companions are, generally, also very interesting.

The SF Site Featured Review: Deathstalker
This is the first in Green's series featuring protagonist Owen Deathstalker and the story of his rebellion against the evil Empire and presumably the events covered in this initial instalment have some bearing on the eight novels that follow.
One such gets his kicks in the arena as a champion masked gladiator, whilst another fills his system with the best and most exotic narcotics he can find, but far from being a space cadet, he is in fact a shrewd fighter and politician.
Though it's not without appeal, as a narrative, Deathstalker is not such a good novel -- it reads too much like a loosely connected sequence of adventuresome happenings, rather than as a single story arc.

In his 10th novel, however, John Irving undertakes to imagine just such a transplant, which involves a donor, a recipient, a surgeon, a particular Green Bay Packer fan, and the remarkable left hand that brings them together.
Almost Swiftian, the novel might have made a better essay, possibly even without the love aspect which is supposed to be the redemptive force of the book but is not entirely believable.
Irving's longer novels can support and sustain his meandering, almost chatty prose style, but this effort's brevity and the plot's sparseness serve to emphasize certain faults.
