Other stories have had villains use deathtraps as a means of testing the heroes or to distract them while the villain attends to other matters.
Unlike many deathtrap scenarios, Bond is not left alone or unguarded, nor does he use a device or outside help to escape.
Her creation was that of Tracy lying chained to an apartment floor underneath a refrigerator supported by two ice cakes which had a sharpened pole aimed at the detective's heart.

It has always been the responsibility of the film chairmen to see that the box office was staffed and that the film was in the theatre for the projectionist.
Not once, but several times, the film was made for the then new wide screens, apparently not so labeled, and the CT screen was one of the older smaller ones.
The current CT film committee was astonished and pleased to be the envy of the Notre Dame film series in being able to show 35mm films.

Many films never get the attention they truly deserve and in retrospect Sidney Lumet’s "Deathtrap" seems to be such an example.
The film is presented only in a fullscreen version on the disc.
Although a lackluster release in terms of supplements or overall presentation, this film is a fabulous study for minimalist filmmaking.

When it was announced that a third "Cube" film would be made, a prequel in fact, most of the fans of the original had good reason to be skeptical given the abomination that was the second entry.
However while the sections with Wynn are offbeat and miles away from the other films the sections dealing with Cassandra as she and other survivors make their way through the cube are extremely similar to the first two installments.
Thankfully most of the film focuses upon Wynn and the more unoriginal segments from within the cube are complemented with innovative new set pieces involving acid, plague and death by sound.

 Ira Levin
In 1949, CBS ran a contest for original teleplays, and Levin's entry was called "The Old Woman." It told the story of an old lady's murder, as plotted by her nephew and nurse, but in the end the old lady outsmarts her would-be-killers.
The 1975 film with Katharine Ross and Tina Louise was genuinely scary, while the 2004 film with Nicole Kidman and Matthew Broderick heightened more of the book's underlying humor.
Deathtrap, a delightful comedy-thriller by Levin, ran four years on Broadway, and was crisply done for the cinema by Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine.

Deathtrap is a one room, two act film about a young writer who has just penned a one room, two act play called Deathtrap.
People expect a play to minimize on set changes, but a 156 minutes film all on one set (except the first and last 5 minutes) is overdoing it.
Cramped and restrained as the set is, it is only a minor distraction to a well written and well acted film that is well worth the bargain price it sells for.

Make no mistake, this film is styled very much as the stage play would have been, with simple but effective sets that give the intimate feel of the stage.
The clothes have dated and the playwrights in the film used typewriters (remember those?), but this is a snapshot of a story and so it's not so much of an issue.
I tended to forgive a little with this film as it is the story that is meant to draw you in, not any sort of audio-visual extravaganza.

The thin-lipped, unattractive Caine has - so far - kept his vow to never film a gay love scene again, and we can all be greatful for that as well.
So the setup of Deathtrap is Dinner Theatre 101, and why it enjoyed such a long run on Broadway is anyone's guess.
I thought I'd perk up after Christopher Reeve jumped through a French window covered in dirt and blood before trying to strangle Caine with a rusty chain, but it was a false alarm.

I don't know which film Christopher Reeve was most proud of, but I can tell you which is the most fiendishly entertaining, and it isn't "Superman."
In the 1982 comedy thriller "Deathtrap," Reeve is a young playwright who has written a murder mystery so brilliant, another playwright (Michael Caine) whose latest work has just been trashed by critics thinks it's worth killing for.
"Deathtrap," a play which broke the record for Broadway's longest-running mystery/thriller, seems precisely like what it is: a filmed play.

I haven't seen Deathtrap as a play out on broadway, or more of a professional theatre, but 2 years ago, the high school I went to, did this story as its fall play.
And here is the film verison starring Michael Caine, the late Christopher Reeve, and Dyan Cannon as the playwright's frusted wife, and he might be frusted to.
The Michael Caine charecter actually causes his wife (Dyan Cannon) to have a fatal heart attack and then starts a gay relationship with the young student who writes the play and then both men end up killing each other and the next door neighbor takes the play and it becomes a smash.

Deathtrap (1984): Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve, Dyan Cannon
It's hard not to draw immediate parallels between Deathtrap and Sleuth: two men alone in a house full of serious instruments of death; first one, then the other, grabs the upper hand in the conflict; cross, double-cross and triple-cross.
But that film was saved by its stellar cast and Lumet clearly doesn't have any more of a feel for this sort of material than the screenwriter, as evidenced by the inability of both to broaden Ira Levin's original script out into a believable movie.
Even the shots themselves are framed theatrically: the interior of the house is usually seen from one wide angle which emcompasses the living room and Sydney's study, just as you would see on stage.

Set in the glittering milieu of New York’s Hamptons, the film stars Michael Caine as Sidney Bruhl, a washed-up writer of Broadway hit thrillers reeling from the unmitigated flop of his most recent play.
The genre's typical propensity for reversals is magnified tenfold as DEATHTRAP begins to feed upon its own script, taking the characters on a blind ride through sheer suspense and manipulation.
Caine, Cannon, and Reeve turn in bravado performances that inject the already taught script with fine-tuned tension and raise the viewer’s suspension of disbelief to dizzying and hilarious heights.

deseretnews.com | Reeve leaves a super legacy, not just on film
In 1981, I had been reviewing films part-time for a couple of years and had just begun the job full time, and my first movie junket was a trip to Niagra Falls to see "Superman II" and interview the stars.
"Street Smart" was a pretty good film, and Reeve was excellent — but he was overshadowed by a then-unknown actor named Morgan Freeman, who was singled out by critics and rode the film to an Oscar nomination, despite the fact that it was a box-office failure.
Reeve and co-star Jane Seymour were both quite surprised at the film's afterlife and often commented in interviews that it was the biggest unacknowledged hit of their respective film careers.
