Debbie Downer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
While her opinions and pronouncements are all negative in nature, Debbie Downer is especially concerned with the epidemic of feline AIDS, which is, as she puts it, "the number one killer of domestic cats."
When the family is making small talk, Debbie (who is wearing a depressing brown shirt compared to bright colors by her family), makes depressing comments on current events followed by a look in the camera and a "wah-wah" sound made by a muted trumpet or trombone.
Debbie Downer appeared in another skit later that year with Ben Affleck as the guest host.

Matt's Idea Blog: Debbie Downer and the Six Thinking Hats
I had two reactions, and thankfully they helped to moderate this person's toxic effects on me (which I'm pretty certain she was unaware of - I believe she felt she was helping).
The first reaction was a little internal chuckle as I remembered the Saturday Night Live character Debbie Downer, whose comments in conversations are always depressingly negative (e.g., "By the way, it's official...I can't have children.") And I had a live one!
My second reaction was to think of this person's response in terms of Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats, which I've been working though lately.

The problem with the sketch, at least the way it should have been, is that the other characters were supposed to react all too normally to Debbie's depressing stories.
