Ferguson, who was scheduled to run in the women's invitational 100-meter dash during the Saturday, April 30, session of the Drake Relays, had surgery performed in Miami, Fla., where she is training.
This was to mark Ferguson's first appearance at the Drake Relays since she led Georgia to victories in the women's university division 4x100 relays in 1998 and 1999 as well as the sprint medley relay crown in 1998.
Ferguson won the 200 at the 1996 NCAA Indoor Championships, the 60 at the 1999 NCAA Indoor Championships and captured both the 100 and 200 at the 1998 NCAA Outdoor meet.

Debbie Ferguson of Bahamas says she now has Marion Jones in her sights after she completed the Commonwealth Games sprint double with a runaway victory in Monday's 200 metres final.
Ferguson finished second to the United States's Jones at last year's world championships, but says she fancies her chances of beating her next the time speedsters line up on the blocks.
Ferguson's victory almost certainly cemented her place as the outstanding female athlete in Manchester and she could yet win a third gold medal in Wednesday's 4x100 relay where the Bahamas, the reigning Olympic and world champions, are favourites to win if they can keep hold of the baton.

The Athletes Hall of Fame was established in 1959 during the Golden Anniversary of the Drake Relays with 72 charter members, including Jesse Owens who was named the outstanding performer during the first half century of the Drake Relays.
Ferguson, 29, ran the anchor leg for the Bahamas 4x100 meter relay team which won the gold medal at the 2000 Olympics and 1999 World Outdoor Championships crossing the finish line ahead of the U.S. team led by Marion Jones.
This will mark Ferguson’s first appearance at the Drake Relays since she led Georgia to victories in the women’s university division 4x100 relays in 1998 and 1999 as well as the sprint medley relay crown in 1998.

Ferguson demolished the field in the women's 200 metres, her teammate Laverne Eve won the women's javelin gold, with a seasonal best 58.46 metres and to complete the terrific treble, long jump specialist Elva Goulbourne leapt 6.70 metres to seal the gold for Jamaica.
Queen of the track Ferguson smashed the Commonwealth record with a time of 22.20 seconds to add the 200-metre title to the 100 gold she won on Saturday.

Two weeks ago Ferguson, was surprised to learn that she was ranked number two in the world in the 200 metres among junior female sprinters and 55th in the world once added to the women’s list.
At the time Ferguson, a student at Jordan Prince Williams, who has proven to be a focused and well-grounded athlete, said the reality of her success so far has not set in.
Meanwhile, at the Carifta Championships Ferguson won the 200m in a time of 23.44 and she says if she is going to give Ferguson-McKenzie and Amertil a push in the 200 she knows she will have to run under 23 seconds before going into the nationals which is a goal she has set for herself.

Bahamian athlete Debbie Ferguson has announced that she will not defend her Commonwealth Games sprint double titles in Melbourne in March.
Ferguson, who made her comeback in Boston with a 7.37 clocking, has yet to find her form in the current indoor season, and has not recovered fully from a back operation she had in 2005.
The 30-year-old, Ferguson holds a season-best time of 7.30 seconds achieved at the Powered by Tyson Invitational at the weekend, and she believes it would be pointless to go to Melbourne unfit.
