DEBRA Fellow: Preimplantation genetic diagnosis for EB.
The appointment of a succession of DebRA Fellows at St John’s Institute of Dermatology over the last 15 years has resulted in a marked improvement in the local, national and international organisation of inpatient and outpatient healthcare for people with EB.
The work of the DebRA Fellow is organised such that approximately 30% of his/her time will be committed to outpatient, inpatient emergency and community-associated healthcare isues, often involving close liaison with other members of the DebRA multi-disciplinary team.
This technique may not be suitable for all couples at risk for recurrence of EB and the DebRA fellow will continue to be involved in other prenatal diagnostic techniques, but it does represent a major step forward in healthcare options.

Debra Messing is equally great as Val's latest flame, but she's stuck with an extremely limited role and isn't integral to the plot whatsoever.
Indeed, the plot meanders for quite a while and eventually devolves into a long, torturous episode involving Val's psychosomatic blindess and his attempts to hide it from everyone associated with the studio.
