		Debre Zeit a large town surrounded by five crater lakes.
		An hour south of Addis Ababa it is a popular weekend destination for the capitals resident.

	CITIES OF ETHIOPIA
		During the recent construction, Debre Zeit road was even worse than usual, not, it seems, a pleasurable confusion by comparison.
		Past the turnoff to Siquala is the small city of Debre Zeit, although there is a struggle to have it renamed Bishoftu to reflect it’s location in the Oromo Region.
		One pleasant addition to Debre Zeit is the Family Restaurant, which serves tex-mex food and is a popular brunch spot on the weekend.

		The current prevalence status of hydatid disease in cattle and sheep and echinococcosis in dogs in Assela, Makale and Debre Zeit areas of Ethiopia was assessed in this study.
		Of the infected cattle, 13.4% (17) in Assela, 23.3% (20) in Makale, and 10% (3) in Debre Zeit harboured at least one fertile hydatid cyst.
		The prevalence of the infection was 50% (7) in Assela, 20% (3) in Makale and 33.3% (5) in Debre Zeit.

	Milk in the urban market
		Little surprise then that so many farmers in and around Debre Zeit have been keen to join the milk association, which offers a way to overcome these difficulties.
		Researchers from the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) stationed at Debre Zeit, who have been advising the co-operative, are keen to see the benefits now enjoyed by cattle owners close to the town being spread to more distant areas.

		Jan Mitchell’s planned two-week stay in Ethiopia in 1998 expanded to almost two months and culminated in her founding an organization that has brought basic nutrition and veterinary care to the workhorses in the village of Debre Zeit.
		Mitchell traveled to Ethiopia in January of 1998 to produce photographic documentation of Debre Zeit’s horses for the International League for the Protection of Horses.
		Mitchell, who believes that education is the key to better treatment for animals, hopes the humane advances in Debre Zeit are duplicated throughout Ethiopia.

		After they had selected materials from the trials and evaluated performance of released varieties, they requested seed of the improved varieties; they also suggested that the seed be multiplied both off-season, under irrigation if possible, and in the main season.
		There are now lines at Debre Zeit Agricultural Research Center that are resistant to wilt, rust and frost, and are tolerant to drought, and these will be released soon.
		Farmers are pleased with this; indeed they have been congratulating Debre Zeit Agricultural Research Center on its achievements.

	Over $90 Million Worth of Milk Lost Each Year in Eastern Africa and the Near East
		DEBRE ZEIT, ETHOPIA; ROME (PRWEB) October 22, 2004 -- Economic losses in the dairy sectors of East Africa and the Near East due to spoilage and waste could average as much as $90 million per year, according to new studies by FAO.
		The studies -- the first-ever such analyses of economic losses in Africa's dairy sector -- were conducted in five countries where FAO is working with local producers and government agencies to reduce losses of dairy products during production, transport and marketing.
		Trainers and extension agents from all the involved countries have been participating in a month-long FAO workshop in Debre Zeit, Ethiopia, which concludes today.

		About two weeks ago, I was traveling to Debre Zeit on a work related trip and I happened to sit next to an older gentleman who is teaching at a college in Debre Zeit.
		The gentleman who introduced himself was actually from abroad on a contract and told me that he teaches at a college called "Defense University" in Debre Zeit.
		Even though I hadn't heard about the college before, it was very fascinating to hear from the gentleman that the country had such an institution that seemed to have all the equipment and instructors needed to train people in modern military and civilian technology.

		For three weeks we traveled around Ethiopia — where I was a Peace Corps Volunteer from 1963 to 1965 — along with two friends, Scott Morgan and John Goulet, who were also PCV's in the same small town of Debre Zeit in 1964 to 1966.
		It was a highly emotional trip for me, varying from exuberance and delight to near despair over the poverty of the country and the deterioration over the last 40 years.
		When the occasion arose, we told people (in Amharic) that we were teachers in Debre Zeit 40 years ago, and this always elicited a warm response of amazement.

		This Research Center was later transferred to operate under Alemaya University of Agriculture, and the University's research and extension activities were conducted in the two centers, Alemaya and Debre Zeit.
		By the Government decree, the Debre Zeit Agricultural Research Center (DZARC) had been separated from its mother institution, the Alemaya University, and was transferred to Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization in 1998.

		The structural number and the layer thickness for the Bole to Asmara Road section are significantly different from the remainder of project and thus different layer thickness are recommended for this section.
