Debunker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Debunkers are skeptics who attempt to disprove and pursues what they consider to be false, unscientific, bizarre or abnormal claims.
The debunker is applied when a professional performs research and/or writes an article with the specific intent of proving or disproving a bizarre or abnormal claim, such as those about U.F.O.s or other paranormal phenomenon, and conclusively disproves the validity of the event and/or object.
As a slang term, debunk is the act of disproval of a proposal or theory, generally in an academic or scientific sense.

The Truth About UFOlogy and Debunking   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
While the term "debunker" is not a slanderous term, it is often implied that a "debunker" is somebody who is not fit for proper discussion.
He did not accept the debunking by these UFOlogists, who had hired an independent photoanalyst to examine the images (this analysis of the images showed that they were hoaxes).
Debunking information can be withheld by UFOlogists to maintain the status of a case as a "classic" and unexplainable.

 The Alien Jigsaw: Debunker's Tactics
A rational debunker would ask, "What scientific or scholarly knowledge do we have about these craft, or UFOs?" It turns out that in the fifty-year history of UFOs there is only one (American) scientific study.
Many people who love to scoff and debunk have discovered the publications of CSICOP (The Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal,) an American "skeptics" organization dedicated to stemming the rising tide of "irrational" belief in paranormal and New Age ideas.
On the other hand, debunkers use these frequently, especially when logic and reason seem to be failing the aim of destruction.

Harry Houdini was a well known debunker of fake mediums and spiritualists
What really happened is that he tied her to the inside of the spirit cabinet and cut two holes in the side of it for her hands to fit in.
When he discovered she was either genuine or too clever a fraud for him to debunk he attempted to frame her on a number of occasions.
One time he put a ruler in the cabinet to and expected it to be found, this would suggest that Margery was fake, but Margery's deceased brother and spirit guide Walter materialised partially and told the sitters what Houdini had done, the cabinet was then inspected and a ruler was found.

 Skeptics, Debunkers and Believers
Skeptics neither debunk nor believe--unless they are able to establish that a given phenomenon deserves to be debunked.
Debunkers comprise the most virulent of contemporary self-described “skeptics.” There is nothing inherently unsound about debunking, contrary to the many appeals on behalf of the “pro” side of any given paranormal controversy.
The term “debunker” is often taken as a negative word, perhaps best personified by orangutan scientist-theologian Dr. Zaius in “Planet of the Apes.” But there’s nothing wrong with being a debunker as long as the debunker can back up his or her claims.

I don't know much about flares but I guess the movement of the objects was too linear to be a simple flare...and once again here we are, they are actually ignoring the crew's account of the event and the footage itself.
If there is something that makes the footage so amazing is its spontaneity - one can hear the voice of the the person in charge of the IR system counting the number of objects during an exchange with the crew.

Why not try 'debunking', which seems to be growing in popularity and requires little except a narrow viewpoint and a handful of faulty arguments.
Actually, the best debunkers are those that don't even know their true identity, having such poor critical thinking skills that they truly believe that that they are exhibiting all the open-mindedness and mental sharpness of the true skeptic or scientist.
The trick for the debunker is to take Occam's Razor and use it not as a handy rule of thumb to aid critical thinking, but instead to impose it as a literal and immutable law of the universe which immediately destroys your opponent's arguments.

The irony and reality of it is that the keeper of the closed mind belongs to the professional skeptic whose goal is to debunk at any cost.

Scientology --- THE GREAT DEBUNKER, JAMES RANDI: Debunking Seeing Without Sight
For many years, as a master debunker of the paranormal, Randi had offered $1,000 and then $10,000 to anyone who could, in a test agreed upon by both Randi and the challenger, prove supernatural powers.
But five years ago, a wealthy Internet entrepreneur and admirer of Randi called and said, in effect, "Ten thousand simply doesn't cut it these days." He promptly dispatched a million dollars to Randi's foundation, which purchased negotiable bonds and placed them in a special account where they await the first successful challenger.
Charlatans, fakirs, mystics, and dreamers alike, they are all too aware that James Randi's meticulously-devised tests can destroy their reputations, such as they are, and make fools of them all.

Never a group of people to be bothered by facts, the perpetrators of this cartoon fantasy have constructed an elaborately woven web of delusions and unsubstantiated hearsay in order to promote this garbage across the internet and the media to the extent that a number of otherwise rational people have actually fallen under its spell.
Normally I don't even bother debunking this kind of junk, but the effect that this paranoid myth is beginning to have requires a little rational analysis, in order to consign it to the same rubbish bin as all such silly conspiracy theories.
However, it should be noted that one of the curious characteristics of conspiracy theorists is that they effortlessly change their so-called evidence in response to each aspect which is debunked.
