The Nature of the Decathlon - DECA, The Decathlon Association
he decathlon is an athletic competition containing ten different track and field (athletics) contests and won by the participant amassing the highest total score.
While one athlete may be faster, another stronger and yet a third a better jumper, the decathlon attempts to determine who, among the three, is the best all-around or general athlete.
So the decathlon is the only event in which it doesn't really matter if the athlete finishes first, third or worse in a particular event.

Decathlon is one of the best party games for the Atari 2600.
My biggest complaint with Decathlon is that you're going to wear out your joysticks very quickly.
The best way to preserve your sticks is to try and pick up some 2600 Track and Field controllers (it's just a panel with a few buttons, just like in the arcade game.) In addition, after playing this game, you're really going to FEEL like you've had a grueling workout...

 What is Decathlon?
Decathlon activities provide the opportunity for students to realize the potential of their intellectual ability and to appreciate value of academic pursuit.
Unlike the Greek Decathlon, however, this is an academic, rather than an athletic competition and a team competition, as well as one for individuals.
In a typical Decathlon competition, ninth through twelfth grade students are tested in seven areas: economics, fine arts, language and literature, mathematics, science, social science and the Super Quiz.

It's tough to create an exciting simulation of the decathlon, for one simple reason: As grueling a test as the decathlon is in real life, it doesn't give a gamer very much to do in front of her monitor.
Of course, the real challenge of the decathlon is achieving that perfect balance of speed, strength, and stamina through various types of training.
A decathlon simulation without a training feature that actually affects those physical attributes forces you to simply do your best with whatever qualities you've been handed by the program, robbing the sim of any depth or true challenge.
