Decatur Island is one of the San Juan Islands in Washington state, USA, located just east of Lopez Island across Lopez Sound.
Named for Stephen Decatur, it is 3.6 square miles (9 km²) in area.
In addition to the three private communities on Decatur (Decatur Northwest, Decatur Shores, and Decatur Head), there are about 180 full-time residents, served by one general store and a school for first through eighth graders.

Decatur remained in the Pacific Northwest to deter Indian outbreaks until 2 June 1856 cruising to San Francisco between 2 August and 27 September 1855 for supplies.
Decatur was designated lead vessel of the 1st Torpedo Flotilla with whom she conducted drills and maneuvers along the eastern seaboard and in the Carribean until December 1903 when the flotilla departed Norfolk for the Asiatic Station, sailing by the way of the Suez Canal.

Stephen Decatur, born 5 January 1779 in Sinepuxent, Md., was warranted a midshipman at the age of 19 and made his first cruise in the frigate United States.
Returning to the Mediterranean in 1815, Decatur in Guerriere, negotiated a treaty with the Dey of Algiers which ended tribute and exacted full payment for injuries to Americans, then concluded similar agreements with the Bey of Tunis and the Bashaw of Tripoli.
In April 1999, the warship conducted a short cruise to the northwest, visiting Decatur Island, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia, before returning to San Diego in early May. After a second visit to Washington in August, Decatur helped Bunker Hill in assisting MV Gardenia Ace--a car carrier--which had suffered a fire in her engine room.

The western shoreline of Henry Island was great to paddle along on a warm sunny day, but my guess is that there would be a lot of bashing and crashing along this rocky shoreline on a windy day.
There was a faily stong current between Battleship Island and Henry Island the day I was there, with some minor tidal rips, but it was easily handled (at least it was on the day I was there, which had light winds).
There were several places to pull ashore in the vicinity of Marrowstone Island and Indian Island, and also at Oak Bay County Park (just west of the south enterance of the Port Townsend Canal).
