By subtracting, from the instantaneous output of the deceleration sensor 25, the value of the output one second previously, it is possible to generate a signal which is very closely related to the actual deceleration of the vehicle.

Linear & angular deceleration   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
During the course of investigating the vast majority of situations in which a vehicle is undergoing both linear and angular deceleration, an approach that is closer to the middle of the continuum is usually sufficient.
The net effect of all of the forces will be to decelerate the rotation of the vehicle, but it will have no effect whatsoever on the linear velocity or direction of the center of mass.
This is true because of the fact that linear deceleration is not effected by the angular velocity of a point mass object.

Tidal acceleration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because of this offset, a portion of the gravitational pull it exerts on the Moon is perpendicular to the Earth-Moon line and hence accelerates the latter in its orbit.
Conversely, the gravitational pull from the Moon on this mass exerts a torque that decelerates the rotation of the Earth.
As it stays in orbit, it follows from Kepler's 3rd law that its velocity decreases: so the tidal acceleration of the Moon is an apparent deceleration of its motion across the celestial sphere.

Structural performance in a frontal collision is typically measured in terms of deceleration of the passenger compartment, for example by a sensor mounted on the transmission tunnel or in the area of the B pillar.
It will be seen from the Figure 4 that the rate of increase of deceleration during an period t is greater than a threshold level of average initial rate of deceleration D (shown in Figure 4 by the slope of the line 34).
It follows that keeping the deceleration high in the early part of the impact (but still less than the peak deceleration has the effect the less deceleration is needed in the later part of the impact.

DECELERATION IN A YAW   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
If the vehicle decelerates along the X-axis at 1 “g”, then the radius of the turn in the X direction would only be 120.25 feet.
While the vehicle is decelerating along the X-axis and simultaneously accelerating along the Y-axis of the global “earth based” coordinate system, it is the instantaneous acceleration on the local “vehicle based” coordinate system that makes everything much easier to understand.
This deceleration is a straight-line deceleration if no other forces are acting on the vehicle such as a grade or the crown of the roadway.

Deceleration is an alternative distribution of the preclinical courses that allows students to complete the first and second year curriculum in three years.
Deceleration may be voluntary for a variety of reasons including academic, family, health, personal or disability concerns, or may be required of students having significant academic difficulty.
Upon decelerating, students delay their graduation by one year, and are subject to revisions in curriculum requirements and changes in tuition and fees of their new graduating class.

CHEST: Is dobutamine-induced sinus node deceleration a marker of significant stenosis of the right coronary artery?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
Prior studies of dobutamine-induced sinus node deceleration have contained relatively few patients, and the purpose of this study was to determine if sinus node deceleration is an accurate marker of right coronary artery disease in a much larger study population.
The specificity of dobutamine-induced sinus node deceleration for detecting significant stenosis of the right coronary artery (92%) was higher than that of echocardiography (84%; p [is less than] 0.001), but the positive predictive value was lower (28% vs 64%; p [is less than] 0.001).
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of dobutamine-induced sinus node deceleration and its additional importance as a marker of inferior ischemia and/or significant stenosis of the right coronary artery in a larger series of patients which underwent dobutamine stress echocardiography.

In this strict scientific sense, acceleration can have positive and negative values – respectively called acceleration and deceleration (or retardation) in common speech – as well as change of direction.

 Magnetic deceleration (Doug Jones)
The decelerator track can be just that- a flat planar track, made of rather dumb iron plates.
The vehicle has a maglev magnet array on its side, with many poles to achieve *poor* maglev L/D. While the magnets are attracted to the iron track, the maglev current induction repels from the track, and the flying height is stable.
Consider a ferrite magnet flying along an aluminum track- the magnet is not electrically conductive, but the track is conductive, and currents are induced in the track whick produce a "mirror image" of the ferrite magnet.

Deceleration device - Any mechanism, such as a rope grab, ripstich lanyard, specially woven lanyard, tearing or deforming lanyard, or automatic self retracting-lifeline/lanyard, which serves to dissipate a substantial amount of energy during a fall arrest, or otherwise limits the energy imposed on an employee during fall arrest.
Deceleration distance - The additional vertical distance a falling employee travels, excluding lifeline elongation and free fall distance, before stopping from the point at which the deceleration device begins to operate.
It is measured as the distance between the location of an employee's harness attachment point at the moment of activation (at the onset of fall arrest forces) of the deceleration device during a fall, and the location of that attachment point after the employee comes to a full stop.

Any deceleration component of rotation of the earth is to be regarded with the greatest of interest, as an apparent small acceleration (deceleration) will result in significant velocity differentials and accumulated time differentials over a relatively short period of time if sustained.
