 Highway 1/17 Interchange Project
Prior to the December 1998 action to proceed with the two components of the Highway 1/17 interchange, the project was reviewed by the Commission and the public several times and the Commission had made a number of decisions over the years relating to the project.
In December 1997 Caltrans informed the Commission that the cost of the new design alternative for the Highway 1/17 interchange (Stage 1) was $63 million which far exceeded the project's $33 million budget.
This ramp was recently restriped to remove the unsafe merge of northbound Highway 1 traffic with southbound Highway 17 traffic near the Ocean Street exit.
