  Size Deciles
Decile cutoffs are determined each year by ranking all NYSE firms on the basis of market value (shares outstanding times share price) determined on last day of the prior calendar year (December 31 of year t-1).
For each decile, the standard error of the average monthly return, which is given in parentheses, is the standard deviation of the 180 monthly averages.
As a consequence, the slope of the estimated spline for a given size decile is not equal to the slope of the separate least squares line for that decile.

The methods consistently underestimated decile rank for the upper deciles and overestimated the rank for the lower deciles.
Since the first five decile ranks are the most crucial to admissions decisions, it is recommended that the confidence interval method be used to convert HS GPA to decile rank.
Although this method is not as efficient as the discriminant method for the lower deciles, the utility of its performance in the upper deciles warrants the risk of misclassification at the lower deciles.

In contrast, the share of the families in the bottom 7 deciles (the remaining 70% of all families taken as a group) declined.
In the bottom decile, for example, female lone-parent families accounted for 40% of all families in 1995 compared with 24% in 1970.
In 1995, the income share of families in the lowest five deciles (that is, 50% of all families) was 18% of the total before taxes and transfers.

The 0 decile indicates that the item median is in the lowest 10% of all class medians.
Decile ranks are computed from student ratings for the past three academic years and have been calculated for various class types as defined by academic discipline, course level and class size.
Be aware that deciles are relative and that average ratings tend to be high; thus a relatively low decile rank may be associated with "good" ratings in absolute terms.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deciles - Ministry of Education
Decile 1 schools are the 10% of schools with the highest proportion of students from low socio-economic communities, whereas decile 10 schools are the 10% of schools with the lowest proportion of these students.
Deciles are used to provide funding to state and state integrated schools to enable them to overcome the barriers to learning faced by students from low socio-economic communities.
A school's decile is based on the specific, small areas where the students live, not on the general area in which the school is situated.

 Chapter 5
The first income decile is one of ten groups that result from arranging families according to their total income before tax, from lowest to highest, and then selecting the ten percent of families with the lowest incomes; the second decile is the next ten percent of families, and so on.
The decline in the tax burden borne by the top three income deciles was nearly matched by a corresponding increase in the tax burden faced by those in the middle income deciles.
For example, families in the fourth to seventh income deciles, which had borne 27.3 percent of the total tax burden in 1976, were bearing 33.3 percent by 1981, an increase of 6.0 percentage points.

According to the American Heritage© Dictionary a decile is, "Any one of the numbers or values in a series dividing the distribution of the individuals in the series into ten groups of equal frequency." (Houghton Mifflin Company, 1996).
The idea behind deciles, quintiles, and quartiles is to statistically group data into a fixed number of logical categories.
The first decile is the value that is greater than a tenth of the data points.

Although there are some gainers from the extension of UI coverage in each decile of income distribution, there are relatively few among the upper deciles of the income distribution, in part because individuals who are in the top deciles of the earnings distribution have less unemployment, and less UI.
Both as a percentage of total labour force participants and as a percentage of the total additional cost of the UI system, the second and third deciles are the major winners.
The impact on aggregate inequality is an average of the profound impact on the second to fourth deciles of the earnings distribution and the much smaller impacts on the poorest and richest deciles of the income distribution.

Frequently occurring are the percentile, the decile, the stanine, t-sores, iq-scores and the standard categories.
Unfortunately you will rarely find a standard table with percentile or decile limits in a manual, and then it is necessary to calculate the decile limits from the average (av) and the standard deviation (sd).
So the values of the decile limits are calculated per standard table on the basis of the average and standard deviation and entered in the questionnaire file.

Social Security Bulletin: The distribution of OASDI taxes and benefits by income decile - Old Age, Survivors, and ...
The pattern of the distribution of taxes and benefits between deciles is expected to have a strong association with age: taxes are paid almost entirely by nonelderly workers, found disproportionately in the upper income deciles, while benefits are received mainly by elderly retirees, a group found disproportionately in the lower income deciles.
The family CPS income deciles are calculated by ranking families according to CPS income (Census "unrelated individuals" are counted as families) and determining the nine income percentiles--the 10th percentile, the 20th percentile, and so on, up to the 90th percentile--that divide the families into 10 groups with equal numbers of families.
All families with income less than the 10th percentile are in the bottom decile, all families with income between the 10th and 20th percentile are in the second decile, and so on.

To provide students with more information about their ranking within a subject, a decile rank is calculated for each student in each TEE subject.
A decile rank of 1 is awarded to students whose scaled mark is in the top 10% of scaled marks for the subject, the next 10% receive a decile rank of 2 and so on, with the bottom 10% receiving a decile rank of 10.

According to Tehama County Superintendent of Schools Bob Douglas, this report is noteworthy because it not only provides a base API score, but it also provides a statewide ranking of schools by deciles and a decile ranking which compares each school's performance with the 100 schools most similar in student population to the schools.
On a brighter note, Douglas stated that the decile ranking for similar schools provides another very interesting insight into how well a school is performing in comparison to the 100 schools that are most similar in areas of population and community demographics.
Of the 18 schools with similar school decile rankings, 44.5 percent are considered high performing schools, while 33.3 percent ranked average and 22.2 percent ranked low.

Changes to the Calculation of School Deciles & Increases in Schools' Operational Funding - Ministry of Education
By removing the ethnicity factor from the decile calculation and recalculating school deciles, a small number of school principals will find that they lose part or all of their eligibility for the decile-linked salary component.
In light of these changes, consideration was given to whether retaining the ethnicity factor in the decile indicator was still the most appropriate way of targeting resources to improve educational outcomes and reduce ethnic disparities in achievement.
The impact of the change to the decile calculation will impact on approximately 900 schools across all deciles, so each school has to be considered individually.

A first generation of as many as 10,000 models is randomly generated using the operators available; the "fitness" of each model is evaluated using training data.

For example, a decile rainfall map will show whether the rainfall is above average, average or below average for the time period and area you have already chosen.
If, for example, you had 40 years of annual rainfall records, you would first need to arrange the totals in ascending order (from lowest to highest).
The first group (four lowest annual rainfalls on record) would be in decile range one, the second group in decile range two, up to the four highest annual totals (highest 10 per cent) being in decile range 10.
