Since it is the essence of the right to make an independent decision that the affected person has a right to know and to follow the ways and circumstances in which his personal data is used, the preliminary conditions for exercising this right must be established first.
Since the right to make an independent decision may be restricted in a constitutional manner only when such restriction is unavoidable, the protection of privacy rights satisfies the Constitution only if the affected person is able to prohibit the release of his data by the state census bureau.
Beginning on the date when this Decision is published no one has the authority to demand from another person, or to render the exercise of a right or the provision of a service contingent on the disclosure of the personal number.

Decision theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Decision theory is an interdisciplinary area of study, related to and of interest to practitioners in all branches of science, engineering and in all human social activities.
This area is concerned with the decision whether to have, say, one ton of guns and three tons of butter, or two tons of guns and one ton of butter.
This is the classic subject of study of microeconomics and is rarely considered under the heading of decision theory, but such choices are often in fact part of the issues that are considered within decision theory.

DECISION THEORY   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Decision theory is a body of knowledge and related analytical techniques of different degrees of formality designed to help a decision maker choose among a set of alternatives in light of their possible consequences.
Decision theory for risk conditions is based on the concept of utility (see utility, sense 2).
The decision maker's preferences for the mutually exclusive consequences of an alternative are described by a utility function that permits calculation of the EXPECTED UTILITY for each alternative.

Also see their Decision Trees Applet: "Learning is the ability to improve one's behaviour based on experience and represents an important element of computational intelligence.
Although rules and decision trees may seem similar at first, they are in fact quite different both in terms of the information they discover from databases and in terms of their behavior on new data items.
Decision trees are attractive because they show clearly how to reach a decision, and because they are easy to construct automatically from labeled instances.

Decision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A decision is a final product of the specific mental/cognitive process of an individual or a group of persons/organizations which is called decision making, therefore it is a subjective concept.
More precisely speaking, a mental object D is a decision if it was obtained by a conscious choice of only one opinion or one action (from a known set called alternatives), and it is designated for an application.
Specially important decisions are those which have normative long-term or order/task character, and intend to influence different human communities, for example, political decisions.

Decision On Ramush Haradinaj’s Modified Provisional Release
Between the Re-assessment Decision and the Stay, the Accused issued a press release and had one conversation with Ibrahim Rugova, the late President of Kosovo and a member of the Accused’s political party; the contents were inoffensive.
Most of the conditions were standard conditions of the type that feature in many other provisional release decisions: for example, the Accused had to remain within a fixed geographical area, he could not discuss his case with anyone, and he could not hold government position.
It argues that a decision on the Accused’s requests to appear in public or participate in political activities is a judicial function, not an administrative one.

 CNN.com - Lawmakers blast Pledge ruling - June 27, 2002
Outraged lawmakers on both sides of the aisle blasted the ruling as "outrageous," "nuts," and "stupid." The U.S. Senate was so outraged by the decision that it passed a resolution 99-0 "expressing support for the Pledge of Allegiance" and asking Senate counsel to "seek to intervene in the case." (Full story)
In this case, the appeals court said, the lower court's decision to throw out the case found that "the ceremonial reference to God in the pledge does not convey endorsement of particular religious beliefs" -- a precedent the appeals court said is not supported by the recent Supreme Court decisions.
"This decision is so much out of the mainstream of thinking of Americans and the culture and values that we hold in America, that any Congressman that voted to take it out would be putting his tenure in Congress in jeopardy at the next election," Grassley said.

 High Court Rules Against P2P
The decision follows years of legal skirmishing between the often conflicting interests of technology and the entertainment industry.
In the Betamax decision, the Supreme Court decided the use of new technology to infringe copyrights did not justify an outright ban on that technology as long as the technology had other, non-infringing uses.
Although the lower court decisions established widespread copyright violations on the P2P networks, both a district court and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled that the P2P technology has legal uses.

For its part, the Trial Chamber in the Impugned Decision justified the issuing of the Subpoena on the ground that the evidence sought was “pertinent” to the Prosecution’s case.
In any event, determining whether the Appellant’s testimony on either score may have direct and important value to a core issue in the case requires a factual determination that is properly left to the Trial Chamber.

 October 10, 1997, Hour 2: Decision Making
In an experiment studying a group of people with damage to that specific area in the brain, a team of psychologists based at the University of Iowa discovered that the ventromedial prefrontal cortex may aid decision making by providing access to a storehouse of emotionally-tinged memories.
People with damage to the prefrontal ventromedial cortex (damage that can occur through car accidents, falls, or other blows to the front of the head) were less likely to pick up on the rigged decks.
From this, the researchers concluded that emotions and decision making are somehow linked - and that this part of the brain is somehow responsible.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush's decision Thursday to allow federal funding of embryonic stem cell research that doesn't involve destroying new embryos has initially drawn some degree of support from people on both sides of the issue.
"We are delighted that President Bush's decision prevents the federal government from becoming a party to any further killing of human embryos for medical experimentation," said Laura Echevarria, the committee's media director, in a statement.
"The president's decision reflects a careful balance between ethical concerns and medical potential, and allows research to go forward under the carefully controlled conditions that are appropriate to the current state of medical knowledge," said John Wiley.
