Deck the Hall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Deck the Hall is a secular Christmas carol.
In the eighteenth century Mozart used the tune to Deck the Hall for a violin and piano duet.
J.P. McCaskey is sometimes credited with the lyrics of Deck the Halls but he only edited the Franklin Square Song Collection in which the lyrics were first published.

 Deck the Halls (2006): Reviews
Deck the Halls is a family comedy about one-upsmanship, jealousy, clashing neighbors, home decoration -- and the true spirit of the holidays.
The saddest part is that "Deck" wastes four comic talents ranging from the near-genius (Matthew Broderick, Danny DeVito) to the inspired (Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth) to the charming (Kristin Davis of "Sex and the City").
"Deck the Halls" skewers commercialism, organized religion, familial dysfunction, pop psychology, and the modern industrial condition...

 Deck The Halls
Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la
Reinforced the lighthearted tone of the lyrics is the exquisitely vivacious yet solid and substantial melody which romps with free abandon throughout the decorated halls.
With the absolute and unadulterated secularity of this great holiday song, one could easily conclude that it is antithetical to the religious nature of Christmas.

Deck the Halls (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Deck the Halls is a 2006 family comedy film set during the Christmas season.
Buddy Hall (DeVito) is a man determined to decorate his home with enough Christmas lights it will be visible from space — which doesn't sit well with his neighbor Steve (Broderick), the uptight chair of the local winter festival.
Having a house covered in lights and syncing them to music is a parody of electrician Carson Williams, who synced over 16,000 christmas lights to the song "Wizards in Winter" by Trans Siberian Orchestra.

LA Daily News - 'Deck the Halls' not worthy of many bows   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
"Deck the Halls" is just one of several Christmas films hitting theaters this year, and while it comes decked out in bright lights, no amount of trimming can hide its lack of originality.
The comedic talents of Broderick and DeVito are too considerable for "Deck the Halls" to pass without some legitimately funny scenes.
Eventually, "Deck the Halls" pushes a message that Christmas could use some updating — some new traditions — be it Buddy's LED projection lights, or Christmas carols lit by opened cell phones.

However, the producers were so outraged by this affront to their commercial sensibilities that the idea was surgically excised and the perpetrator summarily executed.
The premise here has the Halls (as in "Deck the" – get it?) moving to a town that could only exist in the mind of screenwriters.
Nearly everything about Deck the Halls is misjudged – not in the least the decision to include clips from bona fide seasonal classics, which only make this film look more vapid than it already did.

 Review: Deck the Halls
Deck the Halls (Or should that be Drek the Halls?) takes its place alongside Christmas with the Kranks and Surviving Christmas among the most unpleasant gifts of the season.
There's not a funny moment to be found from the spitting camel to the runaway "reindeer." It's not just that the jokes are lame and recycled (which they are), but that director John Whitesell (previous cinematic masterpiece: Big Momma's House 2) has no sense of comic timing.
Deck the Halls is intended to be a relatively lighthearted family comedy; hence the "PG" rating.
