Calculate qx (1) and qx (2) assuming that in the associated single decrement model for cause 1, decrements follow a CF assumption, while in the associated single decrement model for cause 2, decrements occur at the end of each half-year with equal proportions.
Given that qx (1) = 0.0105, that decrements due to cause 1 are uniformly distributed in the associated single decrement model, and that decrements due to cause 2 occur at the end of every k months in equal proportions, find k.
Decrements due to cause 1 are uniformly distributed in the associated single decrement model, and the force of decrement due to cause 2 is constant.

We know that "--" is the decrement operator, but we must pay attention to whether it's used as pre-decrement or post-decrement.
In this case --z is pre-decrement, so we decrement z from 6 to 5 first, then we use the new value of z and evaluate x / 5.
The fundamental question is whether we decrement x before (pre-decrement) or after (post-decrement) we use x's value in the calculation.

Decrement due to "all other reasons" is treated as withdrawal from the study, and directly affects exposure.
Multiple-decrement probabilities for an interval are found by dividing the observed number of deaths or recoveries by the aggregate scheduled exposure.
For each of the causes of decrement in a multiple-decrement model, it is possible to define a single-decrement model that depends only on a particular cause of decrement.

It is can be used as a shorthand way of decrementing counter variables, and it is faster (in terms of code performance) than if you used the longer versions of the same code.
The decrement operator is often used as a shorthand form of the code sections noted in the table above.
This is the most common use of the decrement (and increment) operator.

Journal of Vision - Saccades alter perceived duration of full field decrement flashes, by Visco, Stevenson, & Bedell
In this experiment we ask whether a decrement flash presented around the time of a saccade is misjudged with respect to its temporal duration.
On each trial, a standard 100ms decrement flash was presented while the subject fixated on the left cross.
The subject then made a saccade to the right cross, which triggered a comparison decrement with a duration of 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, or 160ms.

A decrement was presented once per 100 ms and ABR collection was initiated at the onset of each decrement.
The function comparing decrement threshold (in terms of depth of the decrement) to the decrement duration was qualitatively similar to that reported for the chinchilla in a behavioral task (Graf et al., J Acoust Soc Am 1992, 91, 1062-1068), suggesting that the ABR is a valid technique for estimating decrement detection.
Response latencies were reduced at a given duration as the decrement depth was increased, and similarly were reduced at a given depth as the duration was increased.

 Index Registers and Loops
There were five instructions that incremented, decremented, and tested the contents of index registers (all type 'A' formats).
If the contents of the specified index register were greater than the contents of the decrement field, then the number in the index register was reduced by the contents of the 'D' field and the next instruction was at 'Y'.
The decrement still occurred only if the index register contents were greater than the contents of the 'D' field.

 Brainstorms: Multiple Decrement Models
For example, what rates of decrement would be required to achieve ‘98% concentration in 3 alleles after 10,000 generations of a population of 1 million starting with a single allele’.
Using the multiple decrement version of your model, it would also be possible to measure the amount of time and changes in selection/decrement required for an evolutionary change from allele Ax to allele Ay.
I proposed as an alternative assumption or hypothesis that the decrement rate applicable to most common mutations is 100% and the decrement rate applicable to limited number of commonly observed alleles is 0%.

Increment and Decrement Operators   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
They are used to increment or decrement a variable, typically an index variable.
In programming `increment' and `decrement' usually mean `change by 1', not just `add some arbitrary amount to'.
They must be associated with a variable (it is nonsensical to try to increment or decrement an expression, because the concept implies `and keep the answer').

Electric power engineering - APPLYING AC DECREMENT PER ANSI C37.010 1979
From the short circuit (SC) decrement characteristic calculate a generator "equivalent reactance" at various times throughout the characteristic, starting at say 0.1 seconds and ending at the steady state value.
This reactance is the reactance that the generator appears to have such that it produces the SC current as shown on the decrement characteristic for a dead short at the generator terminals.
You get some interesting results because most decrement characteristics hit steady state current in the 1.5 to 5 second range but some IDMT relays on a system would want to be operating before the curernt has reached a steady state value.

Increment & Decrement   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
The reason that computers can increment and decrement faster than they can add and subtract goes back to the microprocessor.
The microprocessor has special instructions that increment and decrement values in the microprocessor's registers.
For example, on the original 8088 microprocessor made by Intel (the processor that the 486 and Pentium evolved from), the increment instruction (INC) takes either 2 or 3 clock cycles to increment a value in a register.

PSN-L Message - Subject: calibration: log decrement
I cannot verify the formulas found there, since they propose be for using log(10), rather than the natural log ln, which is always used to define the function, since the amplitude of the damped oscillation decays as e^-hwnt.
The natural logarithm of this ratio is the logarithmic decrement d, where: ln(a1/a2) = d = 2*pi*a/w*, where a = c/2*m and w* is omega*.
So by determining the logarithmic decrement from a graph of the output of an undamped seis, the actual open-circuit damping can be determined.

After being alerted by two of your classmates, I revisited the issue of overloading the increment and decrement operators (++ and --) for the date class.
Therefore, in specifying the date class the way we did, we are in effect only providing postfix increment and decrement operators (and if you remove the integer argument from these operators, you will be in effect only providing prefix increment and decrement operators).
Note that, in a sense, either way is still 'wrong' because someone might reasonably expect to be able to apply the prefix ++ or -- operators to an instance of date, and be surprised to see it fail.

Data Pointer Decrement Feature Simplifies Copy Operation for Overlapping Memory Buffers - Maxim/Dallas
Using the data pointer decrement feature, Solution #2 is particularly easy to implement on Dallas products, allowing a linear transfer and minimizing execution time.
In order to take advantage of the data pointer decrement feature, the application code first must determine if and how the source and destination ranges overlap, a task that would be executed even if the data pointer decrement feature weren't available.
When a potentially problematic source/destination buffer overlap is detected, the data pointers are placed at the end of the respective source/destination copy ranges and the IDx bits are configured to enable the data pointer decrement mode.
