To derive or draw; to derive by logical process; to obtain or arrive at as the result of reasoning; to gather, as a truth or opinion, from what precedes or from premises; to infer; -- with from or out of.
Reasoning is nothing but the faculty of deducing unknown truths from principles already known.

 Adventures in Philosophy: Classical Essay
I say that I at length determined; for at the first glance it appeared to me to be foolish to be willing to part with something certain for something then uncertain.
There is the knowledge which we derive from vague experience, that is to say, from experience which is independent of the intellect and which is so called only because it presents itself casually and we have no experimental proof to the contrary.
In such a case merchants generally say that they know what is to be done in order to find the fourth, because they have not as yet forgotten the rule which they heard nakedly, without any demonstration, from their teachers.

Deduce augments the list of bindings it is given initially with bindings for variables in the pattern list and returns a stream of augmented variable bindings.
Deduce begins by checking to see if the list of patterns is empty; if so, the query is trivially true and deduce returns a single-element stream consisting of the current bindings.
Clearly, you would like to say that the reason why the lamp could not be lit was that the batteries in it were dead; the fault is with the third pattern, not the second.

If you set upper and lower limits, you can say, from the things that you know, it is most unlikely that we will get next year a rate of price increase greater than twenty per cent and less than five per cent.
Thus, even it you say it will rise with such and such per cent probability by so-and-so much--it is meaningless: the stochastic element really serves another purpose, The stochastic element is usually used for working with something like regression analysis.
Here you can actually see differences, let's say, from the Chicago school, which does not sufficiently stress this approach, or, at least, they do not know the extent to which they are subjectivists and methodological individualists.

Spinoza - On the Improvement of the Mind - Benedict de Spinoza
There is the knowledge which arises when the essence of a thing is deduced from another thing, but not adequately.
This happens when we either infer the cause from some effect, or when we make an inference from some universal which is always accompanied by some property.
Not only is it something altogether uncertain, not only is no definite object in view, but by means of it nothing of natural objects is ever perceived save accidents, which are never clearly understood unless the essences of the things be previously known.

Having so favorable an organization, all we need is to impregnate it with geniuses, to get superior men and women working more and more abundantly in it and for it and at it, and in a generation or two America may well lead the education of the world.
I say moreover that you make a great, a very great mistake, if you think that psychology, being the science of the mind's laws, is something from which you can deduce definite programmes and schemes and methods of instruction for immediate schoolroom use.
I cannot too strongly agree with my colleague Professor Mönsterberg, when he says that the teacher's attitude toward the child, being concrete and ethical, is positively opposed to the psychological observer's, which is abstract and analytic.

 A theorem of number theory
The facts consist of axioms, theorems already proven from those axioms, things deduced from the axioms in the course of the given proof, and temporary assumptions made during the proof.
In progressing through the proof, we can either work forward from the facts, that is to say, deduce more facts, or we can work backwards from the goals.
That is to say, add A to the data base of facts and adopt B as the new goal.

I would say that it has five fold symmetry, or any symmetry that is a multiple of five, because the aspect of ourselves that builds things, or creates things are our five fingered hands with their four fingers and an opposable thumb.
So let us say that five-fold symmetry, and its multiples, is the least with which you can do the necessary, and that the source of the cosmos is five-fold, and we have evolved into its form.

THE CINEMA LASER DVD REVIEW-- THE LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION
As much as I enjoyed the Laserdisc release of the classic Warner Bros. animated shorts, the new transfers used to master this first DVD set, marks a significant visual improvement that will allow one to enjoy these films even more than they have in the past.
However, this is not to say they look perfect.
Because of the various ages of these cartoons, some of which are over six decades old, there are the expected imperfections that one would normally associate with vintage films.

From this information, see if you can deduce why the following theorems are true if we are using the italicized terms above within the technical discourse of literary criticism.
(When I say "deduce as theorems" I mean to proceed as we do in geometry, a strictly conceptual discipline, working from definitions, axioms, and rules of inference, but not with any empirical content, i.e., any information derived through the experience our senses afford us about the behavior of the outside world, whether social or natural.
Theorem 1: It is contradictory to say of a narrator that he is "omniscient" and that "the narrator is a townsperson" in the town in which the action takes place.

EARTH and Jupiter may have grown up into very different adults, but as an infant Earth would have looked like a smaller version of the giant planet.
