		The All-India Council for Technical Education, Southern Region, will soon convene a meeting to assess the situation in deemed universities in the State, which witnessed student violence last week over the institutions' refusal to clarify their conformity to AICTE norms.
		The UGC, while granting approval to the deemed universities, had stated that no norms should be violated," Anna University Vice-Chancellor and AICTE regional council chairman D. Viswanathan told reporters here on Monday.
		On Sunday, the heads of the deemed universities in the city went into a huddle, but the outcome was not made public.

	The Hindu : National : Deemed university status for 10 institutions recommended
		New Delhi: Even as the Supreme Court issued notice to the University Grants Commission (UGC) on a petition challenging the norms for conferment of deemed university status, the UGC, at its meeting held here last week, is understood to have recommended to the Union Government the granting of the deemed university status on 10 institutions.
		The petition before the Supreme Court alleged that the UGC and the Centre were conferring the deemed university status arbitrarily.
		The decision to grant deemed university status to 10 new institutions comes while these petitions are still pending in courts.

		Permitting the AICTE to inspect these institutions, the judges said before the inspection it should invite the UGC to nominate its member to be part of the team.
