Deep Purple in Rock Album Review
The album goes straight for the jugular with a screaming guitar intro to 'Speed King.' This song is a nod to the influence of early rock and roll but the rock became a lot heavier in the hands of Deep Purple.
Deep Purple used classical influences, such as Bach, to produce interesting music while maintaining the drive and energy of rock.
Deep Purple are at their best when jamming and Deep Purple in Rock successfully captured the raw energy that the band exhibited in live performance.

Deep Purple is a Darker Shade of Pale purple.
The group pioneered the use of purple haze in experimental songwriting, culminating in the Purple Haze Concerto which was the first time that a symphony orchestra and a rock band played together.
Only brain-dead simpletons confuse purple with deep purple; however, most brain-dead simpletons are able to distinguish the number of matches thrown on the ground, which more than makes up for their inability to distinguish between purple and deep purple.

Deep Purple - Biography - AOL Music
Deep Purple was formed in Hertford, England, in 1968, with an inaugural lineup that featured guitarist Blackmore, vocalist Rod Evans, bassist Nick Simper, keyboardist Jon Lord, and drummer Ian Paice.
After completing 1974's Stormbringer, Blackmore left Deep Purple to form Rainbow with vocalist Ronnie James Dio; his replacement was ex-James Gang guitarist Tommy Bolin, who made his debut on Come Taste the Band.
Deep Purple was given the box set treatment the same year with the four-disc set Shades: 1968-1998, which collected hits, demos, live takes, and unreleased tracks from throughout the years (touching upon all of Purple's different lineups).

The group's first release as Deep Purple, was the single "Hush." Written and originally recorded by American country artist Joe South, the song was later covered by Billy Joe Royal as a short, snappy pop/soul number.
Their next album, simply titled "Deep Purple" and released in the States in June of '69, was their first to actually warrant the term "heavy".
Credited to "Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra", 'Concerto' was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall on September 24, 1969, and released in the U.S. three months later.

Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by rock band Deep Purple called The Early Years
From "Shades Of Deep Purple", there's 5 tracks - "And The Address (2003 remix)", "Mandrake Root", "I'm So Glad (2003 remix)", "Hey Joe (2003 remix)" and one of the rarities, a 1968 monitor mix of "Hush".
My beloved "Deep Purple" is grossly underrepresented by "Bird Has Flown", "Blind (2003 remix)", "Why Didn't Rosemary" and "Lalena (instrumental)".
It's a reasonable selection of material documenting the development of Deep Purple when they were a truly progressive outfit, prior to the arrival of Gillan and Glover and their mutation into a generic, albeit brilliant, hard rock outfit.
