 Seeing The Light - Saginaw River Rear Range Light
On investigation, it was determined that the optimal location for the new front range light was at a point off the river bank approximately 800 feet to the east of the old light, and that the taller rear range light would need to be constructed inland some 2,330 feet upstream to the southwest.
While the Rear Range's location on land some distance from the river bank eliminated the effects of such wave action on the structure itself, the banks of the channel from the river to the Light was beginning to deteriorate and threatened to undermine the structure's foundation.
The Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse is located in on private Dow Chemical property in Bangor Township on the west bank of the Saginaw River (near where the river meets the Saginaw Bay) just north of Bay City, Michigan.

Tests are conducted by the City of Detroit on a regular basis to ensure the water's safety, as required by the State of Michigan and the U.S. Detroit also has four other surface water treatment plants that are interconnected and could provide water to Orion Township should the need arise.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, in partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, and the Michigan Public Health Institute, performed a source water assessment to determine the susceptibility of potential contamination.

The goal of the monitoring program is to determine if pesticides and nitrogen fertilizers have polluted groundwater in Michigan and to use the information gathered to improve communication about the risks to groundwater resources associated with different land-use activities.
This is to ensure that the water is from deep in the well and not water that has been sitting in the pipes overnight.
There are a recorded 159 different species of butterflies in Michigan, and the Michigan Endangered Species Law, Act 451, Public Acts of 1994 lists 11 species of butterflies as endangered and threatened and another 14 species as special concern.
