Deep Space is the first album released by Band of Rain in September 2004.The songs draw from many different influences, some more obvious than others, however they have been able to produce 13 songs that are original, and their own.

Whether relaxing, meditative, or utterly engaging it may also touch the spiritual; seemingly nostalgic of a place or time in which we have been or are going to.
It floats in a space of richly detailed, but minutely shifting sound constructs that owe more to Gyorgy Ligeti and Mark Rothko than early Roach touchstones like Klaus Schulze and Salvador Dali.
Roach is creating a free fall through space, less rooted in the pulsing techno-tribal sound of his 1990s music, and more ecstatic in its evocations of something beyond.

 Robert Carty, Deep Sky Music
Space music is a term first popularized by the radio program Music from the Hearts of Space, and represents cosmic or transcendent music that creates a sense of spaciousness or awe before the vast and subtle dimensions of inner and outer space.
The best space music, though it makes use of "minimalist" techniques that reduce the dissonance and complications of other modernist music, is very rich, sensuous and full of resonant tones that evoke the significant moments and feelings of your life, and put you in contact with your deepest mystic or meditative awareness.
The title "Moving Spaces" seems to refer to the awe-inspiring, evanescent heights of the slowly-shifting spaces of the "deep sky." This is another example of how Carty became a master of the extended piece in 1998, emulating his forebears Steve Roach, Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream in that respect.

Andy: I was involved in a psychedelic dub, as well as being part of an ambient space rock band called 'The Indica Tribe', playing guitar and synths in the early nineties on the free party scene.
Then I met Simon and we became Deep Space Organisms and I started teaching myself to DJ from there.
He has definitely helped put us on the musical map, as far as progressive music is concerned, but we would also give it up to Nick Warren who also pushes our tunes too.

Armchair DJ: Music Review: Model 500: Deep Space   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Warm, deep and exquisitely layered, these nine tracks maintain a steady 4/4 pulse even when they sacrifice their comfortable dance groove for weird syncopation ("Orbit"), jazz textures ("Astralwerks") and luxurious layers of Chain Reaction synths.
Yet the majority of the album focuses on the rich diversity of warm, spacey sounds fashioned by Atkins and his engineer, Moritz von Oswald of 3MB and Maurizio fame.
Each track is named after a Michigan highway, but the mixture of intricate rhythms, pliable melodies and outer-space atmospherics brings to mind another kind of trip - along the galactic axis.
