Deep Space Nine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The station serves as a base for the exploration of the Gamma Quadrant via the Bajoran wormhole, and is a hub of trade and travel for the denizens of the sector.
Deep Space Nine is over a kilometer in diameter, composed of a broad outer Docking Ring, an inner Habitat Ring containing residences, and a central core containing the Promenade, the fusion reactors, and the Operations Center, known as "Ops".
After the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole shortly after Sisko assumed command, circa stardate 46379.1, the station was moved to the mouth of the wormhole to consolidate Bajor's claim to it, after which the station assumed a great commercial, scientific and strategic importance.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is a science fiction television series that debuted in 1993 and ran for seven seasons, finishing in 1999.
Deep Space Nine was well received by critics, with TV Guide describing it as "the best acted, written, produced, and altogether finest" Star Trek series.
On Deep Space Nine, however, not only are events in one episode often referenced and built upon in later episodes, but sometimes several episodes in a row are cliffhangers.

 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
While "Deep Space Nine" is certainly a spin-off of "The Next Generation", it doesn't follow the traditional spin-off path, as it features mostly new characters.
The titular object, Deep Space Nine, is a space-station which is in orbit around the planet Bajor.
As the majority of the episodes are confined to one (overall) location (the space station) and the plots don't revolve around gallivanting across the universe, the show isn't as action oriented as the first two series.

 Deep Space Nine Cast
He was reassigned to Deep Space Nine as it's commander when the Cardassians pulled out of their occupation of Bajor.
Deep inside he knows that his mom would still be alive if his family didn't live in space, and he has a suppressed bitterness about it.
It left him skaken and gave him a deep hatred for the Cardassians for what they did, and for the fact that he was forced to kill to defend the survivers.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Memory Alpha
Deep Space Nine boldly went where no Star Trek had gone before in that it was the first series that was not actually a trek, being set instead on starbase Deep Space 9.
Deep Space Nine was also the first series to have regular characters who were not members of Starfleet, with Kira Nerys, a member of the Bajoran Militia and Odo, the station's chief of security as well as civilians such as Quark and Jake Sisko.
Ironically, one of DS9's most redeeming qualities — the fact that, being set aboard a space station, events from one season directly affected the next — also turned out to be one of its biggest drawbacks, at least where casual viewers were concerned.

Darren can currently be seen in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" playing the part of Vic Fontaine, a 3-D computer-generated image who dispenses advice on love and life -- when he's not belting out ballads aboard the space station.
Darren first appeared in the role in 1998, but has become a regular on "Deep Space Nine" as it heads into its seventh and final season.
Behr says Darren's role will be intrinsic to the plot as he helps the character of Odo, a shape-shifting security manager on board Deep Space Nine, earn the love of hard-headed coworker Kira, a former resistance fighter against the forces colonizing her home planet.

Previously called by its original creators "Terok Nor," this old Cardassian mining station orbiting the planet of Bajor was built in 2351 and abandoned 18 years later as the Cardassian occupation of Bajor came to a close and the Cardassian retreated from the system.
Soon after, at the request of the Bajoran provisional government, Starfleet assumed command of Deep Space Nine and gave it a Starfleet designation.
When the Bajoran wormhole was discovered nearby, linking the Bajoran system to the Gamma Quadrant, what had once been a backwater station became a bustling hub of commercial, scientific, and strategic significance, reflecting Bajor's new-found independence and strength within the Alpha Quadrant.
