One was the old Ward Pendleton homestead which was unoccupied and in a sad state of disrepair having been denuded of most of its doors and windows and the floor of one of the rooms removed and a number of stair treads missing.
Today we think of Pendleton's Island as being rather isolated but people used to go calling by the boatload from Eastport, Back Bay, St. Andrews area as well as the American shore and relatives and friends from Deer Island.
Pendleton's Island always had its quota of indigent people, not overly bright, who were willing to work for their keep and enough clothes to cover them.
