In 1991, before this river's brown trout population was "boosted" with hatchery and transplant fish from the Bow River, the "official" redd count was set at 43 that year for the known locations in the redd survey area.
In the Red Deer River, however, it is his assessment that this number is not vastly different due to the highly concentrated numbers in obvious, known locations.
Odd, considering that NRS managers in Edmonton were so pleased to announce the river as "the next Bow River", that they themselves would not allocate money and manpower to research the project and monitor this sensitive population rather than leave it up to the regional and district staff to produce excuses on their behalf.
