Deerfield Township Trustee Bill Morand said the law was originally meant to protect townships that were not economically viable because of their size.
He said the situation involving Deerfield trustees and Warren County commissioners was the first case where he had seen the law used as a means of intimidation.

Cadwell School (formerly Deerfield Grammar School) was deeded in 1848 and built on the southwest corner of Deerfield and Waukegan Roads.
In 1927, the citizens of Deerfield wanted to relocate this old cemetery, which is on the northwest corner of Waukegan Road and Central Avenue, and an attempt was made to remove it on the grounds that it was not legally recorded in Waukegan.

Last year, Deerfield Township leaders approved rezoning for the 84-acre center area that will hold a 70,000-square-foot Kroger store plus an additional 137,000-square-foot strip shopping center with gas pumps on the southwest corner of Mason-Montgomery and Socialville-Foster roads.
Deerfield Towne Center is expected to be built three-quarters of a mile south of the new Kroger, on both the northwest and southwest corners of Mason-Montgomery and Irwin Simpson roads.

TYRONE TOWNSHIP -- The township is suing the Hartland Deerfield Tyrone Fire Authority, requesting to be excused from paying costs related to its withdrawal from the authority.
Despite the lawsuit, the authority will honor the contract and provide fire service to Tyrone Township, through the 2006 withdrawal date, at an expense to residents of Hartland and Deerfield townships, said Adam Carroll, chief of the authority.
