Word For The Day - Thursday, 3/8 [Free Republic]
Defenestration is the last defense of desparate denizens daring to deflect digital diatribes from dully directed dorks on da TV.
Defenestration of garbage during the middle ages resulted in rats, and the concomitant malediction, bubonic plague.
Defenestration is the art of ridding oneself of unwanted encumbrances, hopefully prior to the complete debilitation of the whole body, and seems to be an impossible act for the Democrat Party to accomplish with its protruding, tumescent, glaring and ubiquitous appendage known not-so-affectionately-as-he-once-was as "Billary."

 Defenestration of Prague
In any case, it is at times like these that one would do well to reflect on the nature of defenestration in general as a means of eliminating any undesirable individual; it need not be a head of state, it could be a manager, a spouse, even a much-too-elderly relative.
Defenestration is quick, it's easy, and it's an efficient, low-cost method of getting rid of the unnecessary or undesirable people in your life.

The concept of "DEFENESTRATION", a word literally meaning "to throw out of a window," is embodied by the both the site and staging of this installation.
Located at the corner of Sixth and Howard Streets in San Francisco in an abandoned four-story tenement building, the site is part of a neighborhood that historically has faced economic challenge and has often endured the stigma of skid row status.
The act of "throwing out" becomes an uplifting gesture of release, inviting reflection on the spirit of the people we live with, the objects we encounter, and the places in which we live.

The First Defenestration of Prague occurred on July 30, 1419, when followers of the martyred reform-minded priest Jon Hus tossed seven Catholic town counselors out of Prague's New Town Hall window to their deaths on the points of Hussite-wielded pikes below.
The Second Defenestration happened on May 23, 1618, when two unlucky Imperial governors of the Holy Roman Emperor were flung out the window from the Bohemian Chancellery of Prague Castle because the Emperor violated religious freedoms granted to the Protestant majority.
The officials were not killed, however, as they fell onto a pile of garbage (mostly straw) which had accumulated in the castle moat.

Defenestration : Defenestration - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Hailing originally from the rolling nowhere of Bartlesville, OK, Defenestration sounded like no band to come before them, and their debut is every bit as defiantly unique, with Todd Walker's guitar alternating between a vaguely country drawl, jangle, and something resembling punk and Tyson Meade crooning, shrieking, warbling, and moaning all over everything.
As it would be throughout much of his early work, Meade's tantalizingly warped world vision is front and center here, with the music mostly functioning as a context for it all and a mechanism for delivery.
Blurring past at a brief seven tracks, Defenestration ultimately crashes in on itself before it runs out of steam, hopelessly impenetrable and better for it.

Born in Norman, Oklahoma, a college town whose other '80s musical export is the astoundingly strange Flaming Lips, Defenestration had an approach to complement their odd name (it means "the throwing out of a person or thing through a window").
Lead singer Tyson Meade was weaned on B-movies, Janis Joplin and the Birthday Party; the rest of the band combined influences from T. Rex and Cheap Trick to the Byrds.
Recorded for almost no money and released on a loan from Meade's mom, Defenestration is quirky and brilliant, a result of being far more ambitious than its means.

The Habsburgs remained in power for another 270 years, ruling over Prague as a provincial capital until the democratic Czechoslovak state was born.

From the beginning, Meade was unquestionably the focus of the band, with the other members laying down slinky beat and muffled lead guitar parts behind his distinctive, rangy warble and warped lyrics.
By the time the band recorded 1984's deliciously strange Defenestration with a loan from Meade's mother, it had relocated to the college town of Norman and added the new rhythm section of Whit Hyde (drums) and Chris Royse (bass).
The relative success of the debut led to a deal with indie Relativity and the release of 1987's tighter-but-slicker Dali Does Windows, which featured yet another rhythm section in Chris Ward (drums) and Joe Kollman (bass).

Only one person came, but it was the enthusiasm of J.J. Watson on euphonium which proved to be the catalyst for the trio's consolidation into a regular band.
