Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA) has been created to enlighten the fans to the reality of the situation, and hopefully reach a peaceful and civil agreement with AOL-Time Warner to stop the threats and intimidation before a very serious calamity occurs.
As we have said, Time Warner is turning against the fans, taking away their domain names, forcing some to close, thus making hundreds, even thousands of Harry Potter fans incredibly annoyed.
Defense Against the Dark Arts is a community of Harry Potter fans, it is a safe haven for those who have been ostracized by Time Warner, and it is a call to arms.

However, when Remus taught, it seemed to be an extention of Care of Magical Creatures, that it focused on varioius "Dark beasts" rather than the Dark Arts.
I would suppose that DADA is more for learning those spells, and duelling club is more for actual practice of spells known, of all varieties.
I think the difference between DADA and a Dueling club is the difference between a fight and a Boxing match.

Sure a few games experiment with ‘stances’ that are managed actively to promote a strong defense but it’s not that common and it’s not all that active either.
In fact all of the books are practically centered around the Hogwart’s subject of Defense Against the Dark Arts and the particular teacher they have each year for that subject.

This weakness is ironic, considering his great power in the sense of defense against the attacks of the Dark Arts, but it is a weakness in the profound sense.
So perhaps the DADA tests are also a joke because they only examine students' defenses against but not their true knowledge of the Dark Arts.
Since the luring aspect of the Dark Arts has not been developed in the past, I thought that perhaps she has placed these comments in the text as clues foreshadowing future illustrations of this less obvious and spiritual danger of the Dark Arts.

Author and expert on metaphysical subjects Francis Melville asserts that psychic attack, the practice of the dark arts, is more common than many of us would like to believe.
Often taking the form of nightmares, illness, and accidents, it is practiced on unwary subjects by personal enemies who have turned bitter as a result of envy, hatred, resentment, or spite.
Several destructive magic arts are described in detail, including Satanism, Black Lodges, Voudou, and Demonic Possession, among others.

Why isn't Snape getting a chance at the Defense Against the Dark Arts job? [Archive] - The Coming Soon! Boards
Putting Snape in charge of Dark Arts when he was once a Deatheater would be like putting an alcoholic in charge of the bar, it might turn out ok but why take the chance.
I agree, I don't think Snape will ever teach DADA and the table is set for him to overcome his own hatred and make a hero’s sacrifice and in doing so exorcise his own demons and redeem himself completely.
11-19-2003, 06:57 PM You also have to keep in mind that the DADA job is supposedly "jinxed", and J.K. Rowling can't keep up the appearance that it's jinxed if she makes Snape the DADA teacher, because if he got the job, he'd be there for a year then would have to lose the job somehow.

This book examines the principal magical techniques, the occult traditions from whence they spring, and a variety of methods for building a 'magic shield' of protection against them.
