The Defense Finance and Accounting Service   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The Pentagon’s core mission is the military defense of the United States, and planning, managing, and executing this task is a formidable undertaking.
The disparity between the Defense Department’s core mission (military readiness and force modernization) and the purely commercial nature of finance and accounting activities runs counter to private-sector trends of the past decade.
Since DFAS monopolizes the military services’ accounting and finance needs, there is no way to know if they are providing the same efficiencies and cost-savings available in the competitive private sector.
