eMedicine - Oppositional Defiant Disorder : Article by W Douglas Tynan, PhD
In toddlers, temperamental factors, such as irritability, impulsivity, and intensity of reactions to negative stimuli, may contribute to the development of a pattern of oppositional and defiant behaviors in later childhood.
In this pattern, the child's defiant behavior tends to intensify the parents' harsh reactions.
By the time they are school aged, children with patterns of oppositional behavior tend to express their defiance with teachers and other adults, and they exhibit aggression toward their peers.

Boulton Paul Defiant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
While the Defiant prototype first flew on August 11, 1937 and immediately went into production as the Defiant Mk.I, its entry into service was delayed such that only three aircraft had reached the RAF by the start of the war.
The Defiant was limited also in that although the turret could turn a full circle, the interrupter gear which prevented the gunner from firing at any part of the aircraft also prevented him from firing forward through the propellor disc.
The Defiant was removed from combat duties in 1942 and thereafter used for air/sea rescue, training and target towing.

Landing pads were built for the Defiant, although it was not specifically designed for atmospheric flight, simulations show that it could withstand landing and liftoff from a planetary surface.
The Defiant was equipped to carry up to four shuttlepods and one Type-10 shuttlecraft which was located in the shuttlebays on decks 3 and 4, directly under the bridge.

By February 1942, the Defiant was obviously too slow to catch the latest German night intruders and the night fighter units completely re-equipped in the period April-September 1942.
A specialised Target-tug version of the Defiant was first ordered in July 1941, designated the T.T. Mk I. The new version was based on the Mk II airframe, with the Merlin XX engine, but with space formerly occupied by the turret now taken up with an observers station with a small canopy.

I think "Defiant" is a solid episode and of some importance because it establishes that the Obsidian Order and the Cardassian Central Command have split, creating a serious power rift that will cause some problems as well as provide a few opportunities for Sisko and crew down the line.
Before Sisko and the station officers can react the Defiant leaps into warp speed and heads for The Badlands with the intent of launching an assault on the shipyard located there believing that the Cardassian government is harboring a volatile political or military secret within it.
"Defiant" is finally an episode, that is clearly ment to contribute to the series as a whole, as it addresses the big political picture of the show.
