So it seems that the dynasty, which more than half a century later succeeded in throwing off the Assyrian yoke and founded the Median empire, was derived from this Dayukku, and that his name was thus introduced into the Median traditions, which contrary to history considered him as founder of the kingdom.

In the autumn of the same year, the cause of Deiotarus was unsuccessfully pleaded by Brutus before Caesar at Nicaea in Bithynia.
From this it appears that his grandson, Castor, had accused him of a design against Caesar's life when he received him in Galatia, and also of an intention of sending troops to the aid of Caecilius Bassus.
Vossius conjectures that the Castor mentioned by Cicero was son to the one whom Strabo and Suidas speak of, and that Deiotarus put the latter to death because he had instigated the younger Castor to accuse him.

Suidas describes the grammarian and rhetorician Castor as a son-in-law of the Galatian king Deiotarus (whom, however, he calls a Roman senator!), who notwithstanding afterwards put to death both Castor and his wife, because Castor had brought charges against him before Caesar,—evidently alluding to the affair in which Cicero defended Deiotarus.
But it is, to say the least, extremely doubtful whether the rhetorician had any connexion with the family of Deiotarus at all.
The Castor who brought Deiotarus into peril is expressly called a grandson of that king, and was yet a young man at the time (b.

Deiotarus, a chief of the Tolistobogii tribe, began to take central leadership of the Celtic peoples in Galatia, and successfully defeated Pontus.
Roman general Pompey granted Deiotarus the title of king of all Galatia in 64 B.C. King Deiotarus proved himself to be a wily Celt indeed as he played the political situations in the Roman civil wars of the next decades.
Famous Romans like Cicero and Marc Antony spoke out in his favor, and Deiotarus was able to keep his reign in Galatia, until his death in 40 B.C. Deiotarus was followed in the kingship of Galatia by his son Deiotarus II, and then by Amyntas.

Galatia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the settlement of 64 BCE Galatia became a client-state of the empire, the old constitution disappeared, and three chiefs (wrongly styled “tetrarchs “) were appointed, one for each tribe.
But this arrangement soon gave way before the ambition of one of these tetrarchs, Deiotarus, the contemporary of Cicero and Caesar, who made himself master of the other two tetrarchies and was finally recognized by the Romans as 'king' of Galatia.
On the death of the third king Amyntas in 25 BCE, however, Galatia was incorporated by Augustus in the Roman empire, though near his capital Ancyra (Ankara) Pylamenes, the king's heir, rebuilt a temple of the Phrygian goddess Men to venerate Augustus, as a sign of fidelity.

Speech in Behalf of King Deiotarus by Cicero
Deiotarus was king of Galatia, and during Cicero's proconsulship in Cilicia he had formed a friendship with him, and had been of great assistance to him in his campaign against Pacorus and the Parthians.
It is probable that Caesar was aware of the groundlessness of the charge, but countenanced it, and allowed it to be brought before him, in the hopes of finding a pretext for stripping the king of all the rest of his dominions.
The present trial was held in Caesar's house, and Cicero proved the king's innocence so completely that Caesar was unable to condemn him; but, as he would not acquit him, he adjourned the further consideration of the matter till he himself could go into the East and investigate the affair on the spot.

Thus the legion of Pontus being almost wholly cut off, with great part of those of Deiotarus, the thirty-sixth legion retreated to an eminence, with the loss of about two hundred and fifty men.

There are, perhaps inevitably, errors in the Greek and Latin quotations; the passages are not translated and a certain lack of regard to the syntax of the original passages in the excerpting can make them difficult to read.
They seem to be comprehensive, though the author is not explicit about this; Deiotarus the Great rejoices in six pages of citation from Greek and Roman sources.
To conclude, I regard the title of the book as slightly misleading since the bulk of the work in the book has gone into assembling a list of onomastic data with full citation.
